View Full Version : Fedora Installation Advice or Tutorial?

So far, I've had no luck finding any info on how to go about installing Linux correctly onthese forums, or anywhere else for that matter.

I currently own a G750JX running Windows 7, and since updating my desktop have decided I'd rather use my my laptop for my linux-heaving classes without having to go to the labs all the time.

I plan on installing Fedora, and would appreciate any general advice on what to do extra / what to avoid during installation. If not, if someone could point me in the direction of a more helpful resource, I would really appreciate it.

Appears that Ubuntu 14.04 works well enough on that hardware, see no reason why Fedora21 should not. Pay close attention to UEFI related instructions, and you should probably be good.

I suggest you try a Live-CD first with your distribution of choice, in fact the Fedora boot media offer a Live-System where you can try out your hardware before beginning the actual installation.

If it is not for heavy use, but for educational (you said for class), then maybe consider running your Linux in a virtual machine for starters. If you are unsure about installation procedures, doing it in a VM might help getting used to it without any danger of messing up your system.
