View Full Version : OverClocking my GTX660M for Far Cry 4

So I'm dying to play Far Cry 4, and my two years old G55 with GTX660M is not handling the game very well..
I saw this video on youtube, the guy is playing on high setting with FHD resolution after overclocked the card to 1220Mhz.

I have two question about this:

1. Is it safe to overclock the card to 1220Mhz? From searching this forum I only noticed people overclocking to 1100Mhz.. (I can buy a cooling pad if necessary)
2. I'm using Presicion X for overclocking and it only allows me to overclock by 135Mhz, which gets me to 970Mhz after overclocked, How can I get more? Should I use a diffrent software?

Thanks in advance guys!

You can try these basic OC steps on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzl0oKcr7yA .By the way, using NvidiaInspector for further OC
Or you can read OC Gtx 660m here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?16367-Overclocking-gtx-660m
Finally, the temp below 80'C considered safe temp. :d

Thanks for the response. At first I had some problems Ocing, but after I downloaded the latest driver for my card, I managed to overclock to 1170Mhz Core Clock and 2750Mhz Memory Clock, using Nvidia Inspector, with no problems or graphics glitches at all. The game is playable on Medium settings with High Textures (No AA, RES: 1440X900) with 30-40 FPS.
The temprature is about 80-85 Celsius while playing. Is it ok? Or should I buy a cooling pad or use Msi Afterburner to increase the fan speed? I'm afraid that increasing my fan speed with the software may cause problems like shorten card lifespan..
What would be the right thing to do?
