I'm currently attaching my G751 to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse, and I'm using it as a replacement to my current desktop.
The issue is I always have to open the lid to power the laptop on, is there a way to power the laptop on without opening the lid?
I looked in bios but could fine something useful.

Thank you in advance

You'll have to keep it in sleep mode, no real way to turn it on through the keyboard if it's totally off. Same goes for most computers really.

If you wanted to be clever Wake On Lan might work, the you'd just need an arduino, an Ethernet shield, a button and some custom programming to send a wake signal over Ethernet, but that might only work for sleep mode too (never dealt with wake on lan but I think some pc's allow remote power on)

yes I Was thinking about the arduino Wake on lan, but there has to be an easier way to do this :), some bios do support wake up on keyboard or mouse, I never had to tuch my power button on my desktop, just type the password and the pc would start. Now I hope we get a bios update with that

Is there Wake On Lan for this computer? I don't know if I missed it or not though but if there is you could test it with a standard pc before going to the effort of programming though I doubt it would be that difficult.

update: there is no WOL on g751 :( , also there is a better solution than using arduino, use a smart phone (there is lots of apps that implement WOL for both droid and ios)

Tried to disable power saving in bios, made sure WOL enabled on card (Device manger) but I still can't get it to work. Initially it seems possible to be done but I cant figure it out.
Any advice?

A. You can power G751JT using the STEAM button instead of the power button.

B. ONLY if you've got intel wifi card - you can use WWON - wireless wake-on-lan - if not, only through the RJ-45 lan port.
for that, as suggest above disable power saving in bios + follow THIS GUIDE (http://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-wake-on-lan-in-windows-8/) to enable the WWON features of the wifi card.
Then from another computer with windows, you can send a magic packet to wake your computer, with apps like this (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2139).
Some routers also have the ability to send that magic packet to wake the computer.
I think WON and WWON is possible only if the computer is under sleep/hibernation mode ( S0-4 states ) - I succesfully managed to wake my G751JT wirelessly from hibernation ( on win8.1 OEM official, using intel's driver v17.0.5.8 )
If i remember currectly - it may not be possible to perform this wake if the computer is shutdown ( S5 ) which I didn't try
Read here (http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-000084.htm) and HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN) to learn more about power states.

Just let your NB sleep when not in use, and mouse movement should wake your NB when needed.
My G750JZ will wake on mouse movement, or per any key on the keyboard.
