View Full Version : Uninstalling Mcafee brakes the boot process

I just got my ROG G20AJ about 2 weeks ago and I wanted to uninstall McAfee and install a different anti-virus. So i did uninstall McAfee and it does require a reboot. But when I reboot Windows can't load and it wants me to do a reset or restore.

I did find that Windows 8.1 does a anti-virus and Malware check during the boot process and I thought that could stop it but I disabled the feature and I still had the same issue.

Does anyone know how I can uninstall McAfee and install a different anti-virus without running into this problem?

Just so you know I did do a restore from a backup and I can use the PC.

perhaps turn on MS security windows defender, make sure its default! then try your uninstall.
I run Norton and wouldn't be afraid to install it over the top of McAfee reboot and then uninstall McAfee

Thanks Clintlgm

I was thinking i could install the new anti-virus, reboot and then uninstall McAfee but wasn't sure if it would uninstall correctly. I will give it a try tonight after I make another backup first.

Well I have been trying this for 2 weeks now and I still can't get McAfee off my machine. I have had to restore my Pc so many times I just want to return it. Why would they force us into using McAfee?

I have tried uninstalling McAfee and enabling Windows Defender. That didn't work. I tried unstalling McAfee and iinstalling Avira before restarting but that didn't work. Now the stupid restore point won't work.

Any thoughts before I return this pc?

Well every time you restore you are restoring MacAfee!!
I would simply do a clean install and be done with it. Get your 8.11 ISO here (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media)be sure to download the correct one Core or Pro or single language
Get your Asus hardware driver here Asus Support Downloads (http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en&type=1)

Its you choice what AV you use but I've been fault free using Norton Internet Security for years on many computers with out any issues.

Have you never seen Mcafee uninstall video by the software publisher itself?

Refresh your Window 8.1 without affecting your documents, photo’s files.
You only need to put on the installation disc/USB of windows 8.1 in your pc.

Windows + Q --> refresh your pc without affecting your files --> use the setup
