Hello the second SATA port stopped working last night it has been working for several years (when I bought the notebook). I've tried 3 different hard drives as well as blowing out the port with canned air.
PC specs:
ASUS G75VX gaming laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
16 GB ram
Core i7 processor 2.40 GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 670mx graphics card
240 GB SSD (port 1)
1 TB HDD (port 2 problem)
The 1 TB HDD is the drive preinstalled with WIN 8 (which I wiped and installed WIN 7 on SSD).

The 3 drives do work as I have used them in an enclosure, neither Windows or the BIOS recognizes the drives

You probably either have a cable that went bad or moved out of the zif connector or the interface itself went bad.

If it were me I would disassemble the laptop and reseat the cable on both ends.

If all else fails you can buy a new hdd/sata interface and see if that solves your problem.

Here's a link to one on ebay.

How do you disassemble the notebook?

Or would it be easier to take the note book to the ASUS service center in Georgia Atlanta Computer Sales, Inc.

Repair center would be your best bet if you can afford it. If not look online for a dissemble Video proceed with great caution the cables and connectors are very fragile and easily damaged.

My wife's computer has been doing the same thing for 6+ months, except for that it is intermittent. We had a 750G Seagate drive in there, and thought that it was the drive. We replaced it with a 750G WD black (that was stressed tested for 2 months) and noticed the same behavior. I'm wondering if it could be a mechanical issue (like C4RN1 suggests), or if the electronics in the SATA controller are going bad.

Either way, for a $20-$40 part off of ebay, it is probably just better to replace and see if that is the solution.

I would like to know if other users have experienced this, and if the problem tends to be a failure of the sata interface controller, or the connectors failing due to regular use.

Thanks!

Yeah almost the same issue that i experience on my G75VW

Second Sata port disconnects my HDD/SSD. Sometimes my drive is connected with problems. Other times not, i cant use the HDD/SSD then.

I get every time I boot a screen showing that he's repairing my second drive.
(no matter which HDD/SSD I put in.

It's not the main motherboard is it?
Also I forget to mention the second hard drive works intermittently.
As that's what the Geek Squad at Best Buy thought it was.

I'd stay far away from "Geek Squad" as they are just over priced salesmen with basic computer knowledge. You don't really need an qualifications to be part of the geek squad. Oh they at least want you to have a high school diploma, but it's not required. (http://www.geeksquad.com/careers/computer-agents/advanced-repair-agent.aspx)

More than likely it's the fcc cable that runs from the interface board to the motherboard, or it's the interface board itself. If I were you I would just replace both and see if it solves your issue.

Is there any place near Ocala Florida that can replace the SATA interface besides Best Buy (as I'm too afraid to disassemble my $1200 laptop to reach the interface)?
