Prior to the installation of the reference GTX 970 I installed, it was running the 750 it came with. Did everything I needed to, made sure to connect the right cables, moved the jumper as stated in some threads here, and installed the new drivers. Now I notice on the task manager that my disk usage, especially when I first turn it on, has 99% to 100% usage but it drops back to normal eventually.

Is this normal? Is it because I only have the single power supply of 230W due to originally purchasing the i5 model?

Should I get the 180W? If so how do I know that the input of the 180W external power supply will work? Because so far I looked at this one: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-180w-Adapter-Laptop-Charger/dp/B00GCST6YA/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

But I'm not exactly sure if it will work.

Thanks for any assistance at all with this situation!

Yes, you need the extra 180w. I would strongly recommend to remove the card until you get your hands on the extra power supply. I believe you can call Asus for one, they may charge you obviously for it

This http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-180W-Notebook-Power-Adapter/dp/B00HWI6ZY8/ref=pd_sim_pc_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=00E7Y7ERE1Z3H3SC5EEP

Is what you need. It has the exact stats.

Is First party the only option I have? I mean if I have to, I'll buy it. But dropping another $100 after the hefty purchase of this graphics card is gonna be hard on my wallet lol.

EDIT: it's also out of stock on both Asus and Amazon.. :\

Yeah unfortunately, you will need the second power supply. The 970 is using almost all of that 230W, leaving barely anything for the G20 to run from (besides pulling the rest from the wall).

The price of these adapters, usually are from 75 to 110$ US.

I found this still in stock http://www.amazon.com/Asus-ADP-180MB-ac-adapter-180-watt/dp/B00IY6FPAW/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1428879393&sr=8-38&keywords=ASUS+POWER+SUPPLY+180w

I ran a quick check online for in stock brick and mortar stores (Bestbuy, Walmart, etc) and found most only carry universal adapters with a MAX of 90W. But to back up adamsyes, you do NOT want to use that computer with the higher draw card without the power to support it, best case your computer will quick short and simply restart (being that I think these models dont have any sort of fuse i doubt this would even happen), worst case you can fry your brand new video card, or worse, your entire motherboard.

I ended up ordering this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GCST6YA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I mean... if it's the wrong one I'll just refund it. But yeah I turned off my computer. I was running it all day to see and it was working fine, but seeing that I could possibly fry the card, I turned it off.

I have a question and I hope you can help. I have the G20 with the i5, gtx 750, and single power cable. I would like to upgrade to a 970 but am having trouble finding one to fit in my g20. Would someone please provide a link to a 970 that would work with my system I'll be buying the extra power cable as well.

Does anyone know if this card will fit in the G20 and how well it works?
