Hello,

Trying to upgrade my GL551JM with an SSD (500 GB PNY) to replace the HDD.
I used the latest version of Backtracker (3.0.8) and put the image on a 64 GB Kingston USB drive. But, when I tried to boot using that image on the new hard drive, I received an error almost immediately after starting the process that it "could not read from USB drive."

Does anybody know of any solution? Or perhaps of an alternative to Backtracker that functions the same way?

(Er, may have put this in the wrong subforum. Any chance it could be moved?)

Hi Pepin,
It has been noted by some forum members, that some USB drives don't work with the Backtracker software. (Kingston for one)
Now the drive I use, and tested twice is "SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 Flash Drive 16GB", the drive worked without any issue both times I test the Backtracker software.
All you really need is a 16GB USB drive, I purchased my USB drive from WalMart for $16.97.
You are using the latest version of the Backtracker (3.0.8), so that's good.
Try using the Sandisk Drive, and start over.

Good luck my friend, and come back an let us know how it works out for you.

I would recreate the Backtracker USB perhaps it didn't get created correctly?
Macrium Reflect works every time Image your hard drive to your SSD the free addition is all you need to do this.

Disregard.
Problem solved, using the same version of Backtracker, by using Windows 'diskpart' tool to erase all preexisting partitions prior to letting Backtracker have its way with it.

Tried this after some mixed successes with Macrium Reflect, which refused to use all 64 GB of the flash drive, and was therefore incapable of copying my entire C: drive.

Glad you solved your issue.
This information should be helpfully for others having the same issue.
Could be the issue with some USB Drives not working well with the Backtracker software.
Enjoy the performance with your new SSD my friend.
