am very happy with my new asus g551 laptop except that sometimes windows does not see my 5ghz wifi router and only sees the 2.4ghz band. any ideas ?

mjr001, whatever model of Wifi card you have, it doesn't support 5ghz...

it was working fine on 5ghz, lost connection for some reason and had to reboot router. all ok on 5ghz now

mjr001, did you install the latest driver from Intel - assuming you have the 7260:

Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260

And, update the firmware on your router - the on-board firmware update's don't usually work right, go to the vendor site and download newest directly from there.

Firstly check out the WiFi Card that is inside your notebook. Download AIda64, go to Devices -> PCI Devices and see what kind of wireless adapter you have. If you do have Intel 7260 then you should follow Hmscott's instructions but if you don't have that one, tell us the model and we'll see what could be wrong.

My network adapter is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter and i don't get to see the 5G network either.

The 5ghz is working fine now.. it was a problem with the router, rebooted and all ok now
