View Full Version : G55V - If i'm not concerned about Electricity or sound, can I increase my fan's RPM?

I don't really know how any of the fans in a G55V works but I am reaching temperatures around 85 now playing Skyrim and the like and i've lost a laptop to overheating before and I would like to cool the laptop in any way I can.

I'm not overly bothered by the extra electricity cost (if it would even be significant) or the noise (its just sitting in my room anyway, i've got headphones on and a cooling pad), would there be a downside to just increase the fan speed now and cool it further?

If so, how do I go about doing it?

This is probably going to be your best bet, you have to play around with the profiles or make your own for the g55 to control it's dual fans. I have gotten it to work with a G53sx before, but can't remember the exact steps. Read the guides and play around with it. You can't really harm anything since this is software based. Just test the fan control before you try to run games with it.

Sweet lord that looks complicated. Read the guide and I just spent the whole day working on addresses in my Computer Architecture class. I don't want to look at more Hex values. Thanks for the tips though! I might try and look at it again some other time.

It's not too bad if you read this thread.

It helps understand it a bit more, though make sure you don't go lowering the threshold so the cpu or gpu overheats.

If I were you I would just repaste with IC diamond and call it a day.
