Hi everyone,

I will soon be purchasing the ASUS GL551 JW with specs as follows:

Processor
Intel® Core™ i7 4720HQ 2.6 GHz ~ 3.6 GHz Processor

Operating System
Windows 8.1

Chipset
Intel® HM86 Express Chipset

Memory
DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 2 x DIMM socket for expansion up to 16 GB SDRAM

Display
15.6'' 16:9 Full HD (1920x1080)

Graphic
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5

Storage
1TB HDD 7200 RPM With 128 GB SSD

Optical Drive
DL DVD±RW/CD-RW

Card Reader
3 -in-1 card reader ( SD/ MS/ MMC)

Camera
Front 1.2 MP and Rear MP
HD Web Camera

Networking
Dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n or 802.11ac

Interface
1 x Headphone-out jack (Audio-in Combo)
3 x USB 3.0 port(s)
1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert
1 x HDMI
1 x mini Display Port

I want to upgrade the HDD to an SSD and install a better GPU.

Firstly, would the "Samsung - 850 Pro 512 GB 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive - Multi" be compatible in the HDD slot and would the
"EVGA - GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card" be compatible as GPU upgrade.

Also, would either of these upgrades cause any overheating issues given the cooling system that comes with the 15" ASUS models
are not quite as impressive as those that come with the 17" models?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

GPU cards for notebooks look like this (GTX980M):

49266

You cannot install PCI Express PC card into notebook.
Asus uses proprietary version of PCI-E and you need a card dedicated for Asus. It is also possible that GPU is soldered to motherboard (I haven't opened my G551)
You can easily overclock GTX960M to be at GTX965M level, but speed of GTX970M is unreachable with overclocking.
