Hello guys, actually I bought a standard version G20aj (i5 GTX970)from the France Amazon, now I plan to upgrade the CPU from i5 to i7 and video card from 970 to 980;

But recently some of my fridents said that they failed to upgrade the cpu and video card because it seems like the G20aj designed only support the original video card and cpu; although my friends bought the public version of GTX 980 the PC does not work ! Now my friends only can use the intel HD Graphics ~ QAQ

I saw many people in this forum succeed the upgrade, so I am in confusion, I don't know whether the G20aj has the protection or not. Can somebody help to give me idea, please~

if you got the i5 you need to add the 180w PSU since you only have the 230w PSU (AC Adapter) but you also need to adjust the jumpers so that the cpu/ram/mainboard uses the 180W instead of the 230W PSU. that way the graphics will be dedicated to the 230W. you'll have to dig and find the info about the jumpers as i got the i7 model so i didn't need to do that.

Thanks for reply. Actually I am not only have the 230 w PSU, when I got the ROG G20, it included the 230 W PSU and 180 W PSU.

So you mean the PSU might be the problem when I upgrade the CPU and graphics ? Now I will find some info about the jumpers which I need

Thanks again

It's a possibility… you might be drawing too much power but the i5 and i7 should be fine with a GTX 980 because the power draw on that is below 230
