I'm trying to restore my G75 to Windows 7 via the backup disks that I had made when I first got it. The disks are good because I had restored it several times when first upgrading to Windows 8. But after the restore is complete the last disk ejects and it reboots but shows a non-system disk.

I examined the disk and found that the OS partition is empty as if the restore partition is supposed to populate it after the DVDs create the restore partition. However nothing like that happens. I tried another disk with the same results.

Both hard disks are GPT disks, one same size as the original one different.

It's not a critical issue but I want to get the free Windows 10 upgrade for the original Windows 7 installation key.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Weird Stuff, tried again and this time connect restored hard drive to usb - sata cable and booted... It started fine as UEFI drive and then showed screen to give choice to restore to 1st partition or 1st and 2nd, the a message that it was for Asus products only and the when I clicked to start, got a big red message "ERROR". Rebooted again and EUFI option was gone and disk would not boot. Before I put it in USB caddy, I put in another laptop and it was seen and started to boot ok until I stopped it.

Sure you have your key on the bottom of your notebook. Download your win 7 SP1 HP ISO (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery)and clean install. Get your hardware drivers from Asus Support Downloads. (http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en&type=1)

All that said there is no reason to believe that you will not be able to update directly to 10 from 8.1 that is what I plan to do. You had to have had a window 8.1 product Key? Actualy windows 10 is going to work just like a Service Pack. We at this time do not know more than that. If you want to prepare your self check out this windows 10 forum (http://www.tenforums.com/forum.php)

It was the BIOS, I reverted to 207 and it restored fine.

Hmm, I've been running 210 now for 2 years or so with no issues. 221, 222, 223 have issues or I should say people have issues with them so I never tried one above 210. Run 8.1 fine with no issues so I don't think I'm missing anything above 210
