Hello every1,

Whats the safe/normal temp for the GPU in Asus G73sw?

My ideal is around 40-50 C and goes up to 90 when playing games (mostly Final Fantasy XIV Online).

Also, I tryed MSI afterburn to increase my fan speed but I coudnt change it. Is there a way to boost the fan speed?

Also, is there a guide/topic regarding OC the GTX 460m?

Thank you.

Sounds a bit warm when gaming, not sure of the difference between the G73 and 74, I own a G74SX but for a comparison my GPU sits between 35-40 degrees Celsius idle and doesn't get above 60 degrees under stress or when gaming! 90 does seem a bit high! Have you tried opening up your case and doing a cleanout? Compressed air in a can is great for this, used it myself and with desktops, also get a programmer like Rivatuner 2.09 it allows you to slow/speed up your clock speeds and allow for fan speed changes as well I believe, haven't used that since before my desktop blew up though (Faulty PSU).

Try using this to set your GPU fan to 100 percent and see if it helps but definatly do a cleanout, and make sure all the fans are operating too.

My G73SW went to around 90C when playing games like NWN2 and such. Seems normal for it. G74SX is much cooler (thermally speaking) than G73SW.

Yeah I just played Witcher 2 for 2 hours straight in 1920X1080 and the GPU didn't get above 56 degrees Celsius, CPU Cores were about the same, obviously some good cooling in the G74 series?

I am using a Thermal-take Laptop cooler as well, might be worth looking into I found it helps with temps!

Don't know why more people don't use them, fantastic for cooling underneath!

All you can really do is make sure your cooling system is clean and possibly do a repaste. Everything else is just going to mask a problem.

According to Cat, this is typical behaviour for a G73sw, so don't sweat it for now... :D

My GPU is a 560M, and is inside a G74SX: it idles at 34 C (in room temperature of 21C, or 70F). Never owned a G73, but I understand they run warmer by about 5-8 degrees on average. I would say that as long as your GPU idles at <45C you've probably got the headroom to play any game in most environments.
Of course the best measure is the load temp, but I don't game, so I couldn't tell you what mine goes up to.

You could install and run FurMark and use that to gget an under load GPU temp. :D
