i did a fresh install on my ssd, and are now wondering how do i control fan speed? i was pretty sure that i read on a thread long ago, that there was a program which allowed us to make the fans run faster or slower, depending on the performance of the computer. but it's just a vague memory now.

No, you can't really control it directly. Different power profiles, both in Windows and in P4G, will use the fan more or less (depends on how they employ passive and active cooling), but it's not like you can manually set the speed. (There are 3rd party utilities that purport to offer this, but I hear they don't work well.)

so even without p4g, windows will speed up and slow down the fans to keep everything cool on its own? i was just wondering because i never hear the fans, and i have read threads where people say how the fan noise is greater than on the g73.

And a low fan noise is bad why..? My G74SX's fan noise level doesn't seem to match any other descriptions about its supposed noise. I really want to ship it back to XoticPC for repairs but I don't have 2 weeks to spare.

Yeah, of course. :) Temp control and power management are basic functions of the OS. I find the only thing that gets the G74 ramped up is using a lot of graphics processing. Otherwise, the G74 runs very cool and quiet.

I'm using the default "Balanced" power profile on my clean Windows 7 instance. I have not installed Power4Gear. SpeedFan indicates fan speed increases similar to the ASUS OS with P4G.
