I saw a blog post here: http://www.bestgaminglaptop.net/general/gtx-560m-overclocking-128-bit-version/

Does anyone have any experience with this? How safe is it to overlock the gpu? How much of an FPS boost did you get?

I OCed the 560M (3GB DDR5) in my G74 to 850, 1700 and 1600 MHz (Core, shader, memory). That pushed my WEI graphics scores to 7.3 from 7.2, but I haven't benched it with anything else yet nor looked at max temps (however, idle temps did not change: it still idles near 36-38C, one to two deg. cooler than the CPU).

I have had plenty of success on my g74 (the best buy version) overclocking to 945,1890,1525. It sees a jump of 8 fps in Skyrim for me running on almost max settings and loads of high resolution graphics mods. I haven't found a setting that is super stable in Battlefield 3 yet. Then again I also haven't looked very hard (finals take time). The temps they recorded are surprising. I run Skyrim for hours and it doesn't even hit 70 degrees Celcius.

the most stable OC I could use that lasted the most without crashes is:
874/1748/1371

Any1 managed to get it higher and stable for long time?

Btw. When you overclock it to its maximum stable numbers, you will only gain about 3-4 fps and nothing more on a game like crysis 2.... So actually you don't need to overclock it

Currently running mine at 870/1740/1550. Stable for everything I've tried. G53sx-XT1 driver 285.67.

Edit: People with the G74, post your results in the thread for the 192 bit cards. There seems to be a difference in overclock potential between the two models, from what I have been seeing.

I've been playing crysis 2 for like 2 hours in a row with 1920*1080 and "gamer" details if I remember right, and I can tell you the difference between stock clocks and max stable oc clocks are HUGE. I'm talking about 10+ fps here, and I'm not joking, so it is definetly worth the effort. Been playing with 930/(1860)/1700 lately. I don't understand these low readings of memory clocks I see. Push some more juice to the mem ppl! But of course this is the 3gb 192-bit model and g74sx so I know it's a different thing, but I remember that the 128-bit has a plenty of go when talking about OC too.

Here's for this thread too, 3dmark11 run without errors or artifacts, notice the clocks.

for those who replied and said it is stable, please mention which model you have :)

Also, if you could add what drivers you are currently running as well.

I have the g74sx bbk7 model (128 bit) running 925/1850/1600 stable. verde 285.62, I only oc when playing crysis 1 or 2 all the other games I play don't need it, but in those two games it makes a big differance, this model has a LG phillips display 1600x900 but that res helps the frame rates I believe, over clocking also bumped my wei score from 7.1 to 7.3.

if you are not playing games very often, but just want to have fast graphics for all else that you do on your system, would oc the gpu be worth it still. and does it do any damage to the system? i would guess if it still runs fairly cool, then it should be fine.

You can use GPU Tweak to OC it (download links are in the GPU Tweak forum). I have tested it works but haven't tested OC capacity of our in-house samples yet.

As it is the case with the CPU, also the GPU only pushes those reading up when needed.

I've bumped my gtx560m(128) to 825/1650/1354(1st attempt so far) and saw a decrease in 3dmark06? Surely it's a good enough bump to see a performance increase. I'm thinking it's a cpu throttling issue?

btw, it didn't even break a sweat lol.

My above post is wrong. I don't think i hit applied and save so it ran at stock speeds.

anyways my results.

3dmark06

-Stock
16,128pts

o/c @ 900/1800/1500
17,778pts

I tried at 950/1900/1550 but it crashed.

I'll leave mine at 850/1700/1400 and call it a day.

You gettin stable results so far with those settings?

I never stress tested with a benchmark but with real world gaming(BF3/Skyrim) I've had no issues.

Temps max out at 61c.

i overclock my g53sx(560m 128bit) randomly...;) i only know i overclock it under 1000mhz but above 900mhz for the core...and others randomly... and manage to get the WEI from 7.1 to 7.3 for the gpu performance... well, after that, i did not overclock it anymore to play games or others... just to increase my WEI to make it look nicer.. :D
btw, i'm using msi overclocking afterburner...

Played 6 games of MW3 and the clock 900/1800/1625 did not crash my machine.

why are you guys scoring 7.1 WEI ? I have the g74sx bbk8 and i'm scoring a 7.2 with the stock clocks . here is my score .http://3dmark.com/3dmv/4157575

I have the 560m (128-bit Edition)
I use Asus GPU Tweak and I have it clocked at:
Core: 900mhz
Memory: 3200mhz
__________________
Not clocked, bandwidth is 40.0 Gb/s
Clocked like mine, bandwidth is 51.3 Gb/s
WEI went from 7.1 to 7.3 (Both Graphic Scores)

I can play BF3 on Ultra, but without AA & Ambient Occlusion.
Crysis 3 on ultra (w/ HIgh Texture Pack, No DX11)
GTA IV all details on the highest option
And other games that I'm too tired to name :P
My G74sx used to heat up above normal, but that was because that dust kinda blocking the airflow of the fans, but got that all cleaned up (:

I haven't seen anything in this thread that makes me want to try this.

I have G74SX-DH72 that I bought from Amazon. I am not sure what bit my GPU is. Also, I am not sure how to overclock it.
