View Full Version : G501JW Screen goes black during gaming

So I have this issue where the screen suddenly goes black during boot or while in a game. The way I get the screen on again is by pressing FN+F7 (screen off) twice. Then it's a random time before it goes black again.

I also have another issue where more or less every online games is lagging like crazy. The games I've played is Dota 2 and CS:GO. Even with 90+ FPS there is almost an unplayable lag. I have been to multiple homes and had the same issue each time, even on LAN. The other people I play with in the same room have no issues whatsoever on their much less powerful laptops.

As you may understand, this makes the laptop useless in games.

I am running the latest available driver from Nvidia through GeForce Experience, and is using optimal settings.

The temps never go above 90C, and that is in a room with a temperature below 25C, with no blocking of the airflow from the laptop,

I have not made any hardware changes. The specifications are as follows: 1080p IPS, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, i7-4720HQ. More info where I bought it, here (http://www.expert.no/baerbar-pc/asus-rog-g501jw-cn188h-156-laptop/p/44006/?q=g501) (beware, it's in Norwegian, but the specifications should be readable to anyone).

Does anyone know what may be causing this? Any help would be much appreciated!

can you update the bios to the latest and see if it helps?
and update all the driver to the latest? please check the support page Here (https://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/768/0/1/uv3gzPnU54cTZC6Y/45/)
if you do everything on that list and still get the same result i suggest u RMA ur laptop.

I sent the G501JW in for RMA, got it back after a few weeks, the issues were still present. I fortunately got my money back after I sent the shop a complaint about it.

I think this machine needs more thorough engineering before it's ready for the market. It was crazy hot as well, temps went up to around 90 degrees celsius when gaming.

err i dunno about your unit but every G501 have a temp lock on 85or so and will underclock itself when it reaches that temp.
soo that is strange that ur unit can get to 90C

I used HWMonitor, maybe it read wrong from the sensors?
