I have a G73SW with 1920 X 1080 resolution.

On one of the games I had some FPS problems so I decided to turn the res down a bit. However, I coudnt change it to 1600 X900.

I only got 1600 X 1024 from the list. Is this a limitation from the laptop or windows?

My only option to play on native res is either 1080 or 720, I need something in the middle.

Was this resolution setting within the game or Windows? Most games have an independent list of resolutions that are both supported by the game and reported as available by the graphics card driver. If you think you should have more options you can either try updating the driver, or in the case of Windows go into the advanced display properties and list all the modes under the adapter.

Thx for the reply.

Maybe I wasnt clear enough, I am playing Final Fantasy XIV on windowed mode. The game itself allows the 1600X900 resolotion.

However, I cant get this resolution from windows (even after checking the advanced adapter list). I need both the game and desktop resolution to match in order for them to fit (to have something close to full-screen effect).

I'm not sure what you should have available since I don't have that model. Perhaps an owner could chime in...

If your native resolution is 1920x1080, you would have black bars if you did get it to accept 1600x900, so you still wouldn't get true fullscreen.

On XP you could edit the registry to force a custom resolution. I dunno if you can do this with Windows 7, but you could look into that.

Both resolutions are the same aspect ratio so they'll look the same (scaled).

Thats true, they will both "look" the same.

I think I will do what your suggested Doan, maybe I can force windows to give me 1600X900.

Any topic I can read to help explain what I need to do? I have no idea how to do it.

Before you mess with registry, try NVIDIA Control Panel first. There's an option to set custom resolutions:
NVIDIA CP --> Display --> Change Resolution --> Customize --> Create Custom Resolution

and if it doesn't scale properly, play with the settings here:
NVIDIA CP --> Display --> Adjust desktop size and position

That woked, exactly what I needed.

Thx bro.
