Hello guys,

my question could appear weird but...

I am going to upgrade my Win 8.1 to Windows 10. What happens to the copy of Windows 8.1 stored either in the recovery partition or in the backtracker USB stick? Once I upgrade, can I still use the old Windows 8.1 with its key? Can I use backtracker to create a new USB stick made for Windows 10?

The recovery partition(s) will not be affected by the upgrade to Win10, nor will the factory recovery image created by Backtracker. The current OS (Win8.1, Win10, etc.) has no bearing on the image restore process. When restoring the factory image, it's done by either booting to the Backtracker-created thumb drive, or to the System Recovery screen (by pressing F9 during POST).

Hello Redduc, thanks for your post.

I should correct my question: once updated to Win 10, can we still install the Windows 8.1 which came with the machine and ACTIVATE it? Do we lose the Win 8.1 activation when we upgrade to Win 10?

No, you won't lose the activation. The restored image of Win8.1 will automatically be reactivated.
