If you are like me you don't want to install window 10 just yet. So you should have your Microsoft updates set to "Check for updates but let me choose whether download and install"
Also these two updates need to be uninstalled and then Hidden See Below

These updates are the ones that pushes the Windows 10 upgrade onto Windows 8.1 (people tend to overlook KB2976978, but it's involved in the reservation process, too). If so, then uninstall them. Then do a check for updates. Now you'll see that KB2976978 and KB3035583 will be there ready to be installed. Right-click on them and select to hide them.

You can at any time download the Win 10 ISO (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10). Just be sure that when you do install windows 10 that you run a upgrade install first. It is best to mount the ISO and start the setup.exe from within windows. once activated this will register your notebook with MS Activation server and after that you can Clean install for the life of your notebook.
