View Full Version : M.2.SSD Upgrade Advice Please.

I have just bought some ram and upgraded the Laptop G751JT to 32gb (thanks to Aeolisio and Carnoustie) i now want to upgrade the SSD that i currently have (Crucial M4CT512), to an M.2.SSD can anyone give me any good recommendations? (Links please, UK)

I know i will have to buy a caddy. One other thing can someone confirm that the M.2. Slot is actually connected and working, i dont want to buy something only to find out its not all connected, and i have no other way of testing it, but the slot is there just as most of the pics on these forums, but i also read that some are not connected.

Finally will there be much of a difference from the current SSD to an M.2. PCIE SSD? what are we talking about time wise? currently my laptop starts in roughly 6-8 secs? (give or take, thanks to win 10).

Appreciate the help.

Thank You

I do not know if your PCIe M.2 Slot is connected on your G751JT model although if it is and your BIOS is the latest version the 512GB Samsung
SM951 M.2 SSD reads at 1600 Mbps & writes at 1350 Mbps on all PCIe Generation 2 controllers, the 256GB SM951 SSD is a little slower but they are both about 30% faster then either 512GB or 256GB Samsung XP941 PCIe M.2 SSD.
I have a G751JY with a 256GB Samsung XP941 M.2 SSD and will be upgrading to the 512GB Samsung SM951 M.2 SSD but first I need to update my
G751JY's BIOS from AS202 to AS207 or AS208 in order to have the SM951 Gen 3 PCIe SSD recognized once installed. I have a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SATA 3 for storage in hard drive slot 2 using a 6" SATA 3 extension cable feeding it from the one SATA 3 Controller in HDD slot 1 fed under SATA Bridge to it to get full SATA 3 speed & the 256 XP941 M.2 SSD does everything much faster.

I wouldn't take a chance on any but the Samsung at this time.
