Hello people.

I just got a GL551JW-DS71 delivered yesterday. I tested it a bit in some ways and it's pretty powerful in Graphics, but there is something that annoys me a bit: the wireless connection.

I've tested this laptop wireless performance in two networks and two operating systems so far: Windows 10 and Linux Mint 16.2. Both operating systems give me similar results: In some cases the wireless connection works like a charm (topping transfer speeds of 1.5 MBps, very fast compared to my previous laptop) but more or less once or twice a minute, ping rises a lot and I get packet loss problem, which forces me often to cancel and resume downloads. For example, it took me about 5 retries to install League of Legends, download a Linux ISO and download Linux packages.

I've run a ping test both in a clear line of sight from my wireless router, giving me those results (about 10% of lost packets) but I forgot to store them. I tested in my bedroom too, where signal is weak but my cell phone has pretty good reception.
When I performed a ping test to my wireless router (192.168.1.1), I got 40% of lost packets, and a lot of really huge ping times.

The question is: Is there something me or the ASUS tech service can do to overcome this problem? Using wired internet is not an option for me, my College office lacks of wired network sockets.

What makes you so sure its the laptop? Its only one part of a very BIG equation and honestly sounds like a local network issue, even when you think its good. 1.5Mbps is SLOW!!!

I imagine you have the same wireless card as everyone else, Intel AC-7265
try updating the driver from HERE (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/83635/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7265)

If you still have an issue I would be looking elsewhere as my connection ROCKS! This is through and ASUS RT-68R AC1900 router that is DMZd through the verizon router. I pay for 75/75. Thats a 10ms ping to a server in NYC 50 miles away!

Here is a LAN test to a USB 2.0 network drive connected to my router. I did a 1GB file as the smaller ones peak both direction. Had a few reads and writes peak close to 300Mbps

Yeah, sorry for bothering you.
I found out my wireless router was having one of those days. No problems with my laptop.
