So, after saying a final prayer, my son and I turned on my first ever self build Maximus VI Extreme i7-4790k.

My praters were answered as I successfully booted into BIOS and things were looking pretty good.

Installed Win 7 Home Prem OEM.. looking good.

Installed drivers from MB enclosed dvd.... looking..... bad after installing USB 3.0 driver.
Tried to find a way to get control back... nothing doing.
Took SSD to older PC and reformatted and reinstalled Win 7.
Did not install USB 3.0 drivers.

So why did USB 3.0 drivers affect the USB 2.0 ports that my mouse and keyboard were plugged into?

What does this mean as far as the status of the USB 3.0 ports?

Aren't 3.0 ports backward compatible with 2.0?

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Ke1vin

Sounds like your MB doesn't like that particular USB 3.0 driver. Perhaps its one of the newer UBS 3.0 Plus drivers I wouldn't reinstall it. Asus Support Downloads try the drivers there. They one you want would be the Intel USB 3.0 the win 7 one was the last that they wrote. Window 8 and 10 have a native USB 3.0 driver. USB 3.0 ports are backwards compatible and USB 2.0 ports shouldn't be effected by USB 3.0 drivers. Try downloading one that DVD could have a corrupted file on it.
