Hi,

I have just bought a brand new G751JY and an Asus VG248QE 1920x1080(up to 144Hz) monitor.

Do i need to connect G751JY thunderbolt mini display port into VG248QE display port to have more then 60hz ?

Which cable do i need to buy ? Can someone please link me a good cable on amazon.

Thanks!

I wanted to add another question.
Does also G-Sync will work through this port ?
Can we get this working if we connect to a G-sync monitor through a thunderbolt ?

Any working cable will do. Get the cheapest one that has more than 4 stars on amazon and you're fine.
G-Sync seems to work as well, if you have the G-Sync enabled G751JY. I can't test it because ASUS and NVidia screwed me over ;)

Do you have a G-sync monitor ? Could you try on 348.01 with nvlddmkm.sys replaced from leak drivers ?

you can find it under HERE (https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?71111-Confirmed-quot-G-Sync-FIX-quot-for-ASUS-G751-Series-Laptops)

nope

Strangely, google can't find anything reliable on whether it works on external display on not.

well it usually works if you have a g-sync display but im not so sure if it also works with thunderbolt port
there is no info on it

or is there a possibility that it will also work on standard display with DP ?

A G-sync g751 will work with a g-sync monitor with thunderbolt. Tested with rog swifts and ben q's
g-sync g751+g-sync monitor over thunderbolt=g-sync
g-sync g751+non g-sync monitor over thunderbolt=no g-sync
non g-sync g751+g-sync monitor=no g-sync
non g-sync g751+non g-sync monitor=no g-sync
modded g-sync g751+ g-sync monitor=reportedly working with g-sync
Thunderbolt is superior to hdmi but hdmi is more common.

I think u can buy a miniDP to DP with ver 1.2 and it will work just fine,

BTW. Does G751 support display port in 1.2 standard ? If not it might have issues to get 144HZ and 1080p...

Correct a 'Thunderbolt to DisplayPort Cable' is just a regular ole DisplayPort cable with a miniDP connection on at least one end. G751 definitely support DP 1.2 as verified by my running of a 4k display at 60Hz (and the TB1 spec; MACs are special cases).

I've just ordered AOC G2460PG and see how it goes, I'll also try with the newer drivers if the external monitor will trigger the g-sync to go and this screen off.

I'd recommend Monoprice.com over AMazon for cables. I've purchased a lot of cables from them over the years, and I haven't had a single one go bad. They're also cheap enough that I can get next-day shipping to Alaska for less than the same cable would cost in a store...

Just as update, I got this monitor finally, works great 144hz with just a standard mini-DP to DP cable. G-Sync was enabled by default on modded drivers (348.01).
Also apperently it has some kind function/chip that prevents from the blackouts that were appering on the internal display. This was usually on loading screens when CPU/GPU had a little hickups.

I need to test it also with newer drivers but unfortunatelly i doubt it will work as I have read that there is some kind of lock and bios/chip check. So drivers will automatically disable this option if it was not g-sync verified crap aka nvidia greed bull****

yea as expected, when upgraded drivers g-sync is disabled. Funny though when i went back to 348.01 drivers didnt have to even do leak driver file copy, g-sync works without any mods.
