Hi,

I just recently purchased the ROG GL552VW from amazon, with the open M.2 ssd slot. I also bought the Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB M.2 3.5-Inch SSD.

I was able to initialize and format the drive for NTFS, and I attempted cloning the C drive containing the OS from the factory HDD to the SSD, but was unable to get windows to recognize it as a boot drive. The support recovery dvd macrium reflect had me make recognizes that there is a windows installation on the ssd, but doesn't see it as a boot partition.

If possible, I would like to get the 500 ssd as the primary, bootable drive and have the 1tb HDD as extra storage for the laptop.

Did you use the Samsung software to do the cloning? Also, did you remove the hard drive when you first tried to boot from the SSD? If not, you might want to try that, and if it boots up from the SSD, then you can put the hard drive in an external enclosure and then use a tool like Mini Tool Partition Wizard (free version) to delete the partitions on in and create a new volume. That's what i did for mine and it worked fine.

Hello!

Just yesterday I used this http://www.farstone.com/software/drive-clone.php to clone windows from hdd to ssd on my gl552vw - worked like a charm.

Yes you have to Clone the complete drive not just the C partition. Macrium Reflect free edition (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx) is the most trouble free program to use and its free. Once the Clone is complete you need to shut down and remove your original hard drive. That will keep your system from trying to figure out which drive is the right one to boot from or simple hit the Esc Key on boot that will bring up a boot menu from that menu you can select your new SSD. Once in windows format your old hard drive as logical disk.
