Hi there, I just bought a gl552vw with 4gb ram and I'm going to upgrade it, problem is, i'm not able to find the maximum ram supported by slot neither the maximum ram speed supported

I've found several webs offering this pc with 32gb ram while crucial site says its maximum its 16Gb

supposedly ddr4 can go as high as 64gb, so i'm a bit lost trying to chooose the right ammount of ram

from my previous experience, on a Dell xps 3d l702x crucial & dell said the maximum ram supported by system is 16GB while i saw that machine running on 24 GB 4 + 4 + 8 + 8... so the real capacity was exceding the advised capacity, so to avoid a bad purchase i'm trying to find some info

hope you can help me

thx in advance!

Hwinfo64, (http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php) will give you the information, your owners manual will give you the maximum. Asus Support Downloads (http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en&type=1) the last entry in the download page is your digital User Manual. in your manual look at the upgradeable section!

hi there,

I've checked manual but there doesn't say anything about upgrade capabilities I've installed Hwinfo64 and it says the following

54036

it says I've 4 slots, and 64gb capatilities... Is this correct?

i've checked with cpu-z too and it also shows that i've 4 ram slots

also, i wasn't able to find anything regarding maximum ram speed

i'm confused...

Considering your limited to 2 sticks according to specs your max is 32gb as 16gb is the max single stick avail right now.
2666 may run but as far as i can find only 2400 has been tested working on your model.
Gskill has had excellent compatibility so far with asus rog laptops so my suggestion would be this gskill 2400 32gb kit.

However i highly doubt you will ever utilize anything near 32gb unless you run ramdisks or vms. You dont need more then 8 for gaming currently and 16 or less for most programs.

Hi there, but, what about the 4 sticks? its that an error? i mean programs are showing that i've 4 slots but in reality i've 2?
if so i'm planning to go with 8gb or 16gb in the remaining dimm but i'd like to know if there could be compatibility issues between my ram and the new ram... you know compatiity issues regarding diffrent CL and frecuencies

Yes you have 2 slot, that you can get too with out dissembling and voiding your warranty. You will need to match the current RAM In Voltages 1.35 and Timings which ever hwinfo64 show you the timings shows you which slots are open opening your back cover you should see 2 empty slots if not you still can only work the available slots. If you are going to change all 4 slots. In your manual you will find a compatibility list for tested and approved ram for your notebook.

My GL552VX shows maximum supported memory clock as 1300 in hwinfo64 , that means 2600 ddr4.

Don't count on it. I put 2800 in my G752VY and it had 1400 in the same place yet it would not go past 2400. The SPD is reading the XMP profile of the RAM, not the motherboards ability to clock it. Laptops don't have the BIOS accessibility that desktop boards have. My guess is you wont get past 2400 either.
