Hi All,

I am going to get a laptop for gaming as well as CG related task (Maya, Nuke etc). As i am beginner with CG, so have no idea how to choose the correct workstation, my lecturer recommend me to get something like i7 intel, 32 GB ram, gtx 900 series and SSD. So i got 2 option in my mind right now, which is G751 JY and G752 Vt, both of them suite the critiria and within my budget, below are the config model in my country.

G751 Jy
i7 4720HQ
Gtx 980M 4Gb
16Gb ram (upgradeable up to 32Gb)

G752 Vt
6th gen i7 6700HQ
Gtx 970M 3Gb
8GB Ram (upgradeable up to 64Gb)

Both selling the same price, but it seems the G751 has the better package with 980m and 16GB ram but a slower cpu. As for G752, other then new flashier cloth and an upgrade on the cpu, the rest are still lower thn thn JY.

Since both selling the same price, shud i sacrifice the gpu to get the latest cpu for better upgradeability on ram in future? Or anybody here are CG artist can provide me some recommend?

Appreciate so much :) thanks

The cpu is hardly slower. Go for the 980m model.

What he said. The newer CPUs have been found to be just barely a 10% increase over the 4th and 5th generations.
I believe the biggest difference between the new generation is that it is more efficient over the long run on power (volts).

The 980 GPU will benefit you more in the long run than the 6th generation CPU would. The jump from 970M to 980M is far more substantial.

Agree, but the 6th gen cpu able to upgrade to 64GB. Well, may be is waste of money for gaming, but i wondering will such amount of ram benefit for video editing and computer graphic related task?

You will bottleneck the other components before you utilize that much ram on a laptop. And if he's going the 64gb route he might as well she'll out that amount of money on a higher end model of the new series.

You are right, so ur opinion is to get the latest gpu instead of the tiny upgrade of cpu?
