Hi all,

I am in great need of making my touch-pad to work. I installed win7 my GL552VW because the software I need for work won't run in Win10 nor Win8. I couldn't find the driver for my touch pad. None of the smart gesture driver works on my machine in win7.

These are what I've tried:
1) use the driver for win10 for this particular model ---> error: part of the installation didn't end as expected.
2) use the driver for win8.1 for GL552JW ----> error: part of the installation didn't end as expected.
3) use the driver for win7 for some other model ---> error: smart gesture doesn't support your device.

BTW, the ATK driver works fine on my computer.

Now I suspected that these may be caused by my CPU (i7-6700 with skylate). I've been through tones of articles online about getting the touch pad to work. But all of them are using the models with CPUs older than i7-6700.

Is there anyone out there who is able to get the touch-pad working for WIN7? If any ASUS staff sees this, please talk to the tech department and help us fix the problem.

Steph

Hi, if your touchpad is a synaptics try this driver for Win7/64 from Asus:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/Touchpad/Synaptics/Touchpad_Synaptics_Win7_64_Z162105.zip

and for Asus Smart Gesture for Win7/64 this link:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Drivers/Touchpad/Touchpad_AsusSmartGesture_Win7_64_VER2214.zip

Why not use virtual pc? I think you can run windows 7 in windows 10. I used to have windows xp run in my windows7 using oracle virtualbox before.

1) I use the synaptics driver and it tells me that
"no synaptics device is found"

2) I use the asus smart gesture driver and it tells me that
"Asus smart gesture does not support your device's touch pad function"

BTW, the asus website offers asus smart gesture driver for this computer too! Even though they only provide drivers for win10 ONLY, I am confident that Asus smart gesture DOES support the function for my touch pad.

I have been looking into this issue online. It seems that it is a long existent issue and it is yet to be resolved.

Why can't we know the manufacturer of the touch pad and install the driver independent of Asus smart gesture?! I don't really need all those fancy stuff. Just that I can use the touch pad as a mouse will be sufficient!

Why not use virtual pc? I think you can run windows 7 in windows 10. I used to have windows xp run in my windows7 using oracle virtualbox before.

I have three HUGE applications that only run on windows 7 and sometimes, it requires them to run at the same time.

That is why I choose re-install windows 7 over using a virtual machine on windows 10.

And now that I have wiped my ROG GL552 clean and installed win7 on it, I don't want to go through all the trouble to re-install win10 and a virtual machine for win7.

on my laptop the name of the manufacturer is in "device manager" Under "mice and other pointing devices"

for synaptics here is the link for Win7 driver directly from this manufacturer:

On my laptop, it has "HID-compliant mouse" under the same node "mice and other pointing devices". Shouldn't it be Asus touch pad?

no, mine say "Elan input device"

i've just looked in my Asus Smart Gesture folder (i use V 4.0.9) and there is all the installation from Win7 to Win10 in X32 and x64.
so the PB doesn't come from this software.
i have V 4.0.12 but not installed yet.

So I installed the synaptic driver (the one that is downloaded directly from the manufacturer). The installation process was quite smooth and in the end, the application tells me that the synaptic device is ready to use. But yet, I can't use my touch pad!

The other thing is, I finally found an version of ASUS smart gesture that will allow me to install successfully. By successfully, I mean during the installation, it doesn't throw exceptions such as "smart gesture doesn't support your device". The setup tells me to restart the computer to make it take effect. Of course, I restart my PC and the touch pad still won't work.... GEEZ...

asus smart gesture found your trackpad with the synaptics original driver.

FYI i also took a look at my ATK package folder v1.0.0041and the Win7/64 is also present.

what is your ATK version ?

is your device manager still say :"hid mouse" ?

My ATK version is 1.0.0041 as yours. And yes, the device manager still says "hid mouse".

I finally found a version of smart gesture I can install without error. But it didn't help at all. The touch pad still has no response.

as i'm not in front of your laptop , i don't understand what's wrong, Asus Smart Gesture 4.09 and ATK 1.0.0041 work fine with Win 7.

in your device manager have you got any unknown device ?
do you have an USB mouse connect ?

the only thing that come in my mind is a wrong device detection.

show me a screenshot with the trackpad device in the device manager.

you can also try to do a manual update in the device manager and pointing the Asus smart gesture folder included sub-folders.

hope my explain in English is clear

OK guys and girls, I know you are already going through all the software and stuff for the non-working trackpad. But Steph, have you already tried the simple Fn+F9 Key to activate/deactivate the trackpad?

I don't see any touch pad device showing up on my device manager and I have a wireless mouse connected to the laptop.

I attached the screenshots here. The unknown device in my device manager has the hardware ID as MSFT0101 so it is irrelevant.

Note: 1) "Show hidden device" has been selected in device manager.
2) In Bios, "Internal Touchpad Device" has been selected as enable.

Now I start to doubt if it is the hardware problem. But I got this brand new computer less than a week ago and the touch pad absolutely worked when the computer was with the pre-installed Win10.

for the "unknown device" try to install Intel MEI driver.

if it still appear go into the bios and disable Intel Platform Trust Technology device .

and look if the touchpad device isn't set to disable ^^
may be it's as simple as that.

I have the exact same missing driver in my GL552VW with Windows 7 installed. Although the Intel MEI driver package got rid of the majority of unknown devices, this one still persists. I see no such option in my BIOS to disable "Intel Platform Trust Technology Device". Are you sure it is an option on this model?

Figured this one out (Missing driver in Device Manager). It is the Windows Trusted Platform Module Driver that enabled BitlLocker encryption for Windows 7 Pro.

Need Hotfix KB2920188.

hi, just to talk about the touchpad, it seems that it is connected through I2C I/O and Win7 isn't compatible with this interface.
but some drivers exists you can find one in the asus smart gesture folder Under win7/asusTPDrv sub-folder.
there is also a generic Intel driver here:

I2C Intel (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23888/Proc-IO-Intel-Processor-IO-controllers-driver-for-Windows-7)

i don't have any I2C device so i can't test these drivers and be sure to make this Interface working fine on Win7.
hope this will help.

I have the exact same problem on my G552VW with Windows 7, I have tried everything proposed on this thread but still the touchpad is not working.
While searching the net I found people with the same issue trying to use Ubuntu Linux on G552VW, but this got resolved couple of weeks later as Ubuntu is constantly updated and Windows 7 is not... anyway this should not be that hard to fix.

Hello, my model is gl752vw, I've already opened a thread here

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?89067-GL752VW-Touchpad-Driver-PCI-Controller-for-Data-Acquisition

However, since I've got no response, I was trying to get one from you, maybe it's a similar problem?
The device DOESN'T show in device manager, even with hidden devices shown... some options?

Bios Version is 214

(--------------end quote--------------------)

I'm on a rog strix laptop (GL702ZC) and it took me 20ish hours to get win 7 working (not win 10 -> win 7, but a fresh win 7). I had to use the asus software to load drivers onto my usb iso after using rufus in order to make the usb stick support usb 3.0 during win 7 installation. Anyway, the only thing I cant get working right now is the touchpad. I contacted support and they want nothing to do with me, they say they cant help me unless I downgrade from 7 to 10. I tried the help here but nothing working yet.

One random tip I can give is dont just do windows udate and pick all the updates it wants to install. If you do this it will install an update that reads your hardware, learns you are using hardware that came out after win 10, and stop you from using windows update for drivers or anything like that. Make sure you only do security updates, or do a few of them, make restore, then do some more so you dont accidentally brick it.
