Hi everyone!

I finally decided to change my G75VW to a new ROG ASUS I was looking at G752VT, but.. let me explain.
Coming from a 670M (still going strong today but obliously with much difficulties) i'm looking for a new laptop to hold for some time,
I know 970M isn't 980M.. got a Budget of 1700-1800 ( about 1840 -1950$) here i've found a g752VT at 1700 the VY cost 2200-2300,
but has a 980M what should i do? Wait?
This is also the year of pascal.. it's really hard to decide/wait, any advice? i'm afraid 752VT would become an old boot in a short time for 970M, getting problem with new games.

(sorry for my bad english)

There is a G752VY-RH71 in the sub 2000 range with a 980m. I picked one up and added drives and memory when I found good deals.

So the 980m is actually quite a bit faster than the 970m. As you can see from the link below it gets 10 to 18 more FPS consistently. It also has an extra gig of V-Ram. There is also another option if that is too much money and that is to go with the G751JY. It doesn't have DDR4 or Skylake or the cool RGB keyboard but its still solid and has a 980m for less than $1,600. I bought one last month and its a beast.

On a side note the 980m is getting a little old so new GPU's may be around the corner. I know NVidia is releasing Pascal in a month or two so new Laptop GPU's will probably follow.

As with anything if you wait for the fastest and something better you will spend all your time waiting instead of enjoying some new hardware. The 980 is worth it over the 970. IMO the 970 is barely better than the 965 so if you want to save the $$ in that dept may as well scale back to the VL. If you keep an eye out, particulary right about now after the holiday season you may come across a good deal. I drooled over the G752VY DH72 for quite a while but like you was having second thoughts as the going rate has been in the $2600 range. Then out of nowhere I get an email from Costco wholesale club that is still running a special for $2K with a free accidental damage warranty for a year and manufacturers warranty extended for 2 years. The prices on the older models really are not dropping like I expected them too either. The G751JY DB72 which is similar to what I bought just a little less RAM is still $2200, more than what I paid for the new model with 8GB of ram more and the Skylake platform. A new GPU is due but if the past is any indication when it does hit the shelves the price will come at a premium for some time to come.

My advice with a new model just released, Decide which one you really want and pull the trigger! Its not like there is an announcement of an impending upgrade anytime soon.

if you worried about new models coming out. Note that Asus Will set up a forum here for these new models about 6 to 8 week before they start selling them to the public. Just an observation.

Maybe, I'm thinking that I'm waiting until early summer before I get mine. Would like to see the NVMe work itself out

There will be a new model each year. So waiting won't bring you anything. You can wait now for pascal and then in 6 months another series will come out and so on. 980M is about 20% stronger than 880M and about 10-15% stronger than 970M. Either one of those will bring great improvements since they're both Maxwell architecture. Is it worth to buy 980M over 970M? Definitely. Go with one of those and you're fine for some time (3 years minimum).

I went with the g751jy-wh71-wx on 12/23/15 compared the new g752's with different hardware set ups and dollar value and imo best bang for the buck was the g751jy-wh71-wx. just my 2 cents.

For sure. Its what I went with. On sale for $1475 at the time, but is only $100 more now at Newegg.

Yes they certainly snuck the WX versions in the back door on the way out. Like they had some left over MOBOs and cases to burn up. They didnt offer any model that stripped down prior to this. If you dont care about blueray, are good with minimal ram or intend to upgrade it anyhow its a great deal. Its priced comparable to what the JT was.

I was looking at that but passed when I saw the Costco special on the G752VY DH72 for $2K that gets you a free accidental damage warranty for a year and an extended factory warranty to 2 years. Sale still going on for 4 more days BTW. They also have the flagship for $500 under MSRP with the same warranty deal.
