hi today ive seen some benchmarkdetails on hwbot forum... how can it be that an 4720 have a unlocked multi of 38 running on system with 3800 mhz with bclk100.
i thougt that the the 4720 cant go higher than 3700 without bclk clocking?! very impressed by this!

Some of the older BIOS versions allowed for an extra overclocking bin (203-204, I think). I guess they could have gone back to the old versions?

i mean not on g751... 4720 generally the data sheet spoke 3600 mhz max. in the bench ive seen there is an N751JX with bios 209 this is one of the latest for this machine and give them posibility to go on 3800mhz with a 4720? it seems that asus has throtteld our g751 with core 4720 for nothing.
is there a possibility to unlock the 2nd oc bin? why is it unlocked for other cheaper models?

On the G751JY, with 202 Bios I can go up to 37x 36x 35x 35x. With all the other following Bios max multipliers are 36x 35x 34x 34x.

It would be interesting to know if this "limit" can be exceed with a modded Bios. With the cooling capacities of the G751 I think we can go up to 38x - 39x safely.

with 202 you get 37x with intel XTU or at stock speed?

ive seen too that 202 has one(100mhz stock) oc bin more...but why has the 4720 in a asus n751 more mhz than our "hypergaminglaptop"

With Intel XTU, sorry :)

However, I noticed that with 36x I can undervolt until -75/-80 mV and it's perfectly stable.
With 37x, I can't go under -45 mV, otherwise it becames unstable during normal usage (freeze/reboot when surfing on internet, no problem during game or heavy load, LOL)

Good question.

could it be that intel offer(sell) the overclocking bins for oems ? thats could be the reason why the same cpu runs higher clocks on some notebooks. in this moment i think asus has not paid for 3800 mhz on this notebook.

So, while i was looking into my WDT problem, i managed to unlock the 38x on my 4720.. I haven't tested yet,but i will. I didn't modded the bios, i'm using the last 211 on my G751. here the pics

look in throttle watch or whatever but you never reach 3800mhz the multi is present but only 37 is onlocked...or you have a trick

thats the point that i can not fact out...or so
im one more pissed of that thing? can we with 4720 only have x37?
sorry havnt seen you got g751jt but on win10
the version you posted picture 6.0.2.8. was the same as me but not the lastest bios....and now while i try to update the bios to 211 the maschine goes dead....

Really i'm not gonna say what i did right now, i want to test it more. for now, in xtu stress test i get 3.60Ghz all the way running 4 cores at 76-78c max. and i do get 38x in CPU-Z and windows processor tab.

You can see on the first pic i posted that i'm running a g751JT Win10 and bios 211 and i DID NOT modded the bios in any way. I just tricked XTU ( by mistake i wasn't trying to do this and found out this morning)

ASUS locked the processor to 37x when other brands doesn't i don't know why if it works ...

in my mind was one thing xtu stress all cores...you have 38 on all cores? normally maxmulti only one core! on other maschine asus n751 is consumerbook there is also 38 multi on core i4720

no, i have 38x, 37x, 36x, 36x.

normaly you can't go higher than 37x, 36x, 35x, 35x with XTU.

I'm still testing but so far so good, now i'm looking how far i can safely go with my GPU overclock with this new CPU overclock..

What do you mean with "I just tricked XTU" ?

asus lock the usual 38x overclock on the processors and i found a way to trick it, but i won't say anything until i know for sure everything is good and i've made a detailed tutorial if someone else wants to do it too. :)

What you think i'm doing? lol

No but i made sure i can do it again, and that it works all the time and i'm waiting for a friend, to try on his g751 which has a 4710 to see what it does.

it's almost 9pm here so will post everything tomorrow morning

I'll give it a try, 4710 here, too. Curious as to what you have found. Haven't really tried doing it myself yet but there isn't much to lose if it's not BIOS-related...I'm guessing it's a setting somewhere for XTU or a HKEY registry edit.

Curious that Possible Turbo Bins is always 2, yet XTU can only bump up 1. That's some silly business.

can someone compare the hkeys of intel xtu in win 8.1 with win10? it seems that only under win10 the max. multi 38 is reachable!?

Edweird
02-05-2016, 09:15 PM
So uhm ... yeah.

Just installed XTU ver. 6.0.2.8 and I can magically overlock my 4710 by two bins, up to 3.7GHz from 3.5GHz stable.

So...

Yay?

Really, it happened just by installing last version? Do your intel WDT still working? Could you post a pic to show us?

Weird, because i've been doing that on 3 differents g751 for the past 4 days, trying to replicate what i did on mine, and still have Intel WDT enabled..

Right now everytime i manage to get WDT working again it revert back to normal max multiplier..
