Hi,

yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro ssd and changed the setting in Bios from Auto->M2.
Installed windwos 10 and all my apps without any problems but when I restart my computer windows shuts down and all my fans are on full blast and it hangs with error code 60. I have to press the the reset button or turn off/on again and it boots. I even changed Bios from 1->2 and still the same...
Im not sure if it is the new ssd because before that I didnt have any issues. I dont have my old windows drive to test it so what exactly does code 60 mean?

Thanks!

Hi Ocelot :D

Qcode 60: DXE Core has started.
The Driver Execution Environment (DXE) phase is where most of the system initialization is performed.
Pre-EFI Initialization (PEI), the phase prior to DXE, is responsible for initializing permanent memory in the platform so that the DXE phase can be loaded and executed.
The state of the system at the end of the PEI phase is passed to the DXE phase through a list of position-independent data structures called Hand-Off Blocks (HOBs).
There are several components in the DXE phase and is terminated when an operating system is successfully booted.
The Dxe Core produces a set of Boot Services, Runtime Services, and DXE Services.
The phase prior to DXE, is responsible for initializing permanent memory in the platform so that the DXE phase can be loaded and executed.

What this means is you may be having a problem with your DIMMs,
I suggest you check all DIMM slots and test each DIMM individually to see if either a DIMM is mall functioning, the order you have them in, and test just one DIMM in first slot.
No guarantee this would be a fix but its worth checking.
Good Luck and please report back.

Wow thats a lot of information! Thank you
I have 8 4GB DIMMs so all slots are filled. I will run memetest for a few hours and will report back!

Is that a single memory kit?

no 2x http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-2666c15q-16grr
I had one kit for a year and I wanted to upgrade so i had to buy the same kit again but i would have preferred 4x8GB instead of 8x4gb.

"but you already know what I am going to tell you..." -The Oracle

There is zero guarantee this will work and many reasons it might not. See sticky - http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?57038-Don%92t-combine-memory-kits!-The-meat-and-potatoes-overview

What MeanMachine said... get down to one dimm to verify things work. Then one kit. After that. Experiment, pray, offer sacrifice to the overclocking gods, etc...

Thank you! I didnt know that I thought if it is the same brand and model it will be ok! Im such a noob :P

Was all you needed for many years. We've just a hit a point where there isn't enough margin in the system and/or configurability in the controller to allow it.

Again, nothing is promised here, but after you verify all your dimms work on their own and each kit works on its own, you might experiment with how you mix them...

There are 2 logical approaches:
1. AB = kit 1 CD = kit 2
2. A1B1C1D1 = kit1 A2B2C2D2 = kit 2

Having mixed 2 kits myself (fully knowing and expecting it might not work), I am currently a fan of #1 as it reflects several aspects of how the BIOS is partitioned, BUT... I may have just gotten lucky.

You may have to increase System Agent or DRAM voltage as well to give it a little more margin.

Before you do any of that though - make sure each kit works on its own.

Yeah, given that you have the kits...no reason not to try and set them up...

Probably best not to rely on XMP settings...but set them up manually...maybe try some of the tweaks at the end of this post in BIOS https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25510-Rampage-IV-Extreme-RAM-Guide&p=187479&viewfull=1#post187479

Oh dear god no, do not rely on XMP! I guess I should have said that. It barely works on x99 to begin with for anything interesting as far as I can tell.

;) XMP is disabled I checked the rams and they seem to be working fine I changed the CSM settings and made a few restarts and until now everything is good but that doesnt mean anything in the computer world. I will report back....

Like I said you never know with this damn computers...now I get code 04 when I try to shut down! I get the feeling that its maybe the Mobo....I have this rig for over a year now and never had any issues it all started after I installed the Samsung 950 pro. Does R5E have problems with Nvme?

It's before breakfast here....but isn't 04 what it shows going to sleep...40 on resume...

Disable fast startup or whatever its called or disable sleep/hibeenation

Ok Im convinced that it is the different ram kits. I took out the new kit and now no error codes. I will buy new rams but something I dont understand is I would like to buy this http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c14q-32gtz but when I look at the ram configurator on their site for R5E this are not recommended. Why is that and what is the recommendation based on?

Thanks!

RAM kits are designed for/binned for certain platforms and they are tested "qualified" by the vendors and board manufacturers to work on certain systems certain motherboards.

Ripjaws 4 are what you want if you want a qualified kit on the RVE....trident X are z170 oriented.

is there any noticeable difference in performance between this 2
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3000c15q-32grk
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-2666c15q-32grr

let me rephrase that is it better CL16-16-16-36 ddr4-2800
or this 15-15-15-35 ddr4-2666?

This are my Bios settings Core Ratio 41
BCLK Freq: 100:133

2666 c15 is "better" if you do the rule of thumb (cas/frequency)x2000.....gives 11.25ns for the 2666 compared to 11.43ns for the higher frequency kit....I'd go 2666 I reckon...

But little performance difference....maybe just easier to set up 2666 than 2800
