Hey everyone! I currently have a G751 w/ the GTX 980 and I love it. I'm super excited to see the new 10 series cards coming out but I'm curious if we have an ETA on the 1080's. I'm looking to upgrade but I want to go top of the line so the 1070 isn't going to cut it.

Thanks!

You want to buy a new one?

How is the speaker of Asus RoG anyways, is it good?

I have an advise, wait for Volta GpU and in 2020 there will be 5G... I dont if the laptops today can access 5G if it comes out...

Also wait until RoG laptops can be inserted with external GPU...

So here is what I know so far. First ASUS as taken some interesting if not disappointing paths with the 10 series. First is that the G752 line up is only getting 1060 or 1070 GPUs. The price on these unites is comparable to other makers such as MSI so your not over paying per say, and they are very nice laptops.

The sad thing about this is for what ever reason, ASUS reserved the use of the 1080, at least at this point, to the G800 and GX800 models. While these are very high end laptops that look very nice, its sad because of their price. These are liquid cooled laptops that come at a high premium.

I don't know if ASUS did this because a 1080 actually generates that much heat that it needs liquid cooling, or of it was a money grab of sorts. Being that MSI offers a 1080 equipped laptop for $2,799, that has a few more bells and whistles than the G752VS at $2,499, it will be interesting to see just how loud that MSI runs with fan coolers.

To answer you question, the ASUS G800VI that has the GTX1080 appears that it will be released on September 6th for $4,499 if we are to believe the listing on Xotic PC's website. Being that it comes with that liquid cooling station I think the price sounds right when compared to the G700.

FYI: The photos on Xotic PC are not of the G800VI, but just a G752. If you need more info of the G800VI you can find it on the link below.

I can't tell what of your post is sarcasm and what isn't lol.

Yeah I want to upgrade, I don't use the speakers on the laptop (I have a Logitech G933), I'm not sure what a Volta GPU and why waiting until 2020 is an option, and finally I have zero interest in an external GPU. Top end lappy GPU's can run damn near anything maxed at 60FPS @ 1080P

What you have in the G751 in a 980M From my understanding the pascals coming out are not M GPUs, same GPUs that are in desktops. HUGE difference. There is one with the 1080, the water cooled G800. Hope you have DEEP packets. These are slated to have an MSRP of around $6K.
Me Im patiently waiting on the XG2 external dock to be released so I can use a desktop graphics card with my G752VY. Thats about as far as Ill push it. I can build a very nice desktop and put 2 1080 cards in SLI for far less than the $6K price tag for one of them. My go that route soon as my current desktop in a lian li cube case that is water cooled is about nearing being obsolete. Power supply, case, peripherals, water cooling pumps and radiators, optical drives etc can all be resued. Just need to get MOBO, RAM, CPU and 2 GPUS and a pair of M2 SSDs.

Yep, you're totally correct =D the new GPU's are the desktop variants and not the cut down M versions. I'd love a desktop but I just don't have the room for it unfortunately. I'm really hoping that as the 1080's come out and processes improve the 6K pricetag will fall to 2.5-3K to be in line with the last gen top of the line laptops.

Being able connect external gpu means your laptop is futureproof. No need to buy a new one, just connect external gpu and you are solved. 5G is now being developed, I dont know if the devices today can access it or would become outdated when it comes out.

Not really. I mean ya you could add an external but then it's just a desktop.

Have you guys seen any direct gaming benchmarks that show 980M vs laptop's with 1070's installed? I think the next demanding thing I'll hop into is BF1 and I just wanna be ready =D

There is no way it is worth that price. MSI is selling their new GT73VR with a single 1080 for $2,799 or Dual 1070 SLI for $2,999.

I love ASUS keyboard and cooling system, but I don't think its worth that price. They need to have a $3,000 model that has a 1080.

Asus is going nowhere with its current pricing. I highly doubt they'll move many units at this price range. And yes, at this point - MSI GT73 is much more atractive system. They should look back at 2010s launch of G73. That was brilliant . But now they are not competitive anymore. Just my 2 cents.
