Yesterday I mounted my new PC with Strix motherboard z270f and i7 7700k, I noticed What on standby the frequency is never to 800MHz when idle, oscillates continuously from 800 to 4500, cpu load 1% so I decided to update the bios to the 0701 version, but the problem persists. the bios is set to sync all cores and all other settings manually with the exception of the ram XMP profile 3200mhz. Energy saving set to Balanced (cpu min 5% max 100%) all cstate is enable, can you give me a hand and exclude hardware issue to the board or cpu?

very tks
Andrea

This is pretty normal....idle never means doing nothing...always background processes and stuff going on so CPU ramps up and dowm frequency depending on temporary load....

Hi andreapontic

It sounds like you cpu is working normally, just opening a web page will make it ramp up to 4500MHz.

Open task manager, under the processes tab see what is putting a load on your cpu.

thanks for the quick response, I had never noticed this frequency overhang with my previous 4770k cpu, at idle the keypad display remains almost always fixed at 800mhz. I thought about some of the bios setting that I had set wrong. Thank you

It could aslo be because SpeedShift is also in operation, so transitions are very fast now that the CPU is handling things.
