Hi,

I received a hard drive from Asus RMA today.

I sent in the WD Scorpio Black 500GB drive that was broken on my new G74sx laptop, and received in exchange a Seagate Momentus 500GB hdd.

Does it make any difference? Will I lose or gain any performance with the seagate drive, or will it produce any more heat or less heat etc?

Thanks,

p.s. It took no time at all to get the new hdd, maybe a total of 5 days total.

No.....same specs. Asus installs these interchangeably at the factory.

Okay thanks.

I found a program called HD TUne 5.0 and decided to test both drives. Seems pretty similar in results but thought I'd post the results for somebody more knowledgble than myself that might spot something.

HD Tune Pro: ST9500420AS Benchmark

Unless I'm wrong, it seems the seagate is a tad bit slower, but doubtfull if it's enough to even notice in every day use of the laptop.

Bingo. Testing-variance and margin-of-error type differences will not impact anything in everyday use. (I've had three G74s....two had WD drives, one had Seagate drives.....no difference.)
