Lol... on my G751JT win10 CU - this driver versions works no problem as well as brightness...
so "new" isn't always better, so it seems...
NVIDIA = bashing-my-head-in-the-wall

I figured I should let my fellow ROGers know as it wasn't posted previously.

I discovered the problem when updating my Brand New G752VS-XB78K and came upon the problem myself...and when investigating I found no support for the problem...so I contacted NVIDIA support and they provided this answer to me...Thus, I shared it with you all.

Same problem here, with my G752VY notebook. Although I have already updated to 381.65 several days ago. I am suprised how is that even possible to break things so badly.

Its not possible to upgrade to 381.65 on my G752VS - no supported graphic card.

Yes My G752VY also had this issue I just dropped back to the 378.92 Ver release driver no more problems. I keep a couple of versions back in my files. If you don't simple download an earlier version from NVidia website. On install be sure to do a custom install and check the Clean Install box Problem solved

That driver is unrelated to the brightness issue. See the official statement by NVIDIA (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1004125/geforce-drivers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-381-78-released-4-14-17-/post/5128222/#5128222) in hotfix driver feedback thread.

Installed Windows 10 Creators update along with Nvidia Drivers 381.65 on my ROG G751JY. It kill it! ROG G751JY will not boot to Windows, not even in safe mode. Lost everything. Had to commence back all over from a fresh install from a back up image I engendered when I bought my ROG G751JY. Pain in the arse. I downloaded w10 a couple month ago when it was free but not any longer. luckily, I found this site from Microsoft which it gives you the option to download gratuitously: W10 (assistive technologies) : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade. Anyhow, now all is good and running with an old driver from nvidia.

Nothing has changed, 381.78 is still for black screen only, which is not related to the brightness control issue.

381.77 does not exist.

And the official NVIDIA statement (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1004125/geforce-drivers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-381-78-released-4-14-17-/post/5128222/#5128222) still applies. The fix will be included with the NEXT driver.

Then why are you quoting the 378.77, which actually predates 378.92 (ME: Andromeda Game Ready driver)? I do know about 378.77, but it is completely unrelated to the issues we are having with 381.65. And 378.92 already incorporates fixes found in 378.77.


Also, 381.78 might actually include a few ASUS notebooks that only exhibited the black screen issue, but the majority (like G752VS) have either the brightness control issue or both. For example, my DEV_1BE1&SUBSYS_13F01043 is missing in both 381.65 and 381.78 (due to the brightness control issue).

The case is not closed until they release another hotfix or "game ready" driver.

I made a clean installation to the previous driver, but i was having brightness flickering when i was on battlefield 1 loading screen, lagging and fps going up and down like crazy. I noticed my VRam was stuck at 4007Mhz while gaming and even opening something (my computer, google chrome) my Vram jumps at 4007Mhz.

I tried reinstalling the windows + BIOS downgrade and upgrade again + VBios reinstall.

At this point im stuck and i dont know what to do. Please give me an advice.

Will a new bios update from the manufacture or a new vbios will fix my problem?

This sounds very much like a graphics card failure to me. Could you please open the ROG Gaming Center, change the profile (Standard to Extreme or vice versa), apply, change back, apply and recheck the memory clock?

From what you described it seems like a hardware issue.

doesn't change a thing doing it, after every restart it goes back to extreme mode.

Could this be due to Micron Gtx 1070?

I'll do a clean install to get rid of EX-Mode, which makes gaming lagging as hell... don't use any asus programs besides the hot key.

I removed my ssd and the hdd, and used a brand new hdd that i installed windows on with nvidia driver 378.92. I installeld battlefield 1 and the problem was still there, same issue. Nothing else was installed.

Almost guaranteed to be a hardware issue, since all bios/vbios can change is how the card is initialized; voltages and clocks will still be controlled by the OS (and ROG will apply its turbo gear profile).

I'd say it's clear you will have to RMA the laptop.

What this means is, by default, Extreme mode will always be applied during startup/restart...etc...if the system is powered while plugged into the power adadpter. It will startup in Standard mode if it is NOT plugged into the power adapter...by default.

Unfortunately, Gaming Center just does NOT save chnages to the settings for the overclock modes...except during the same session of running Windows. So, once restarted, the system will revert to its default settings.

Thus, Gaming Center doesn't "save" the overclock settings after restart...unless you use the above method.

I never overclocked my laptop, and even without game center and new instalation of windows my laptop suffer from the same issues. Brightness flickering durin bf1 loading screen, vram used in idle 4007mhz just by open chrome or any other program, fps variations and small freezes during gameplay.

Just want to mention, that the same problems (driver refusing to install + brightness control problems) also exist in Windows 7.

I installed Win7 on the G752VS successfully, with the exception of the damn Nvidia driver problems. I wrote a complete guide about it and want to publish it in this forum, but for some reason I cannot create new threads. I would be very grateful, if some admin could finally give my account permission to do that. Thanx.

A new driver, 381.89 was released.
