Howdy folks,

Has anyone managed to source an OEM power adapter? Not a cheap chinese knockoff or a different branded adapter. Literally the same thing as what ships with the laptop.

I picked up my GX501VIK last month and can return the system to microsoft until the end of jan. If I can't get a second OEM power adapter it will be a deal breaker to me and sadly i'll have to part ways with the system. This system came out over six months ago, it's pretty amazing that the power adapters are nowhere online.

I love this system otherwise, even with the display whining when brightness is above 90%, with the occasional black screen upon resume or boot up and the flimsy bottom panel that seriously bends in the middle if I have it on my lap on a couch or chair. There's just nothing else out there with the same light weight + 120hz gsync panel + solid feeling build.

From what I have found on google:
Cheap Chinese Knockoff - https://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/Asus-230-Watt-AC-Adapter-p/ac-a230.htm
- Reviews of vendor quality. https://www.resellerratings.com/store/Laptop_Battery_Express

I don't care if i'm paying 250$+ for a power adapter. I just want an actual ASUS one from a reputable seller.

Why the urgent need for two?
If its broken return the machine or get one under warranty.

The only place Ive picked up OEM parts for any ASUS product has been HERE

I want to keep a laptop charger in a backpack and one at home for a multitude of reasons.

If it suddenly dies I cannot be SOL for an unknown period of time while I wait for a warranty replacement through a company notorious for long waiting times for customer service and warranty requests. The last ASUS laptop I sent in for warranty repair took over a month before they shipped me back a different model. I had to nag them to get any reply back and go outside of the typical support process (e.g. nag social media).

Regardless... I have a month and a half to return the laptop for the full purchase price. If they can't get chargers by then they may never have them. My alternative is to just buy a 1080ti for my desktop and to buy a cheaper lighter laptop with a longer battery life. If I just buy a 1080ti i'll have 2k in my pocket for a laptop with what I want next year, probably with a 1100 series GPU.

But really...

Chargers are the most trivial thing - if a company can't sell spares and they aren't good for warranty support - what other issues might I not be able to fix down the road? I've worked in IT now for almost a decade. I know all about laptops and the challenges of repairs with them... you're basically at the mercy of the vendor.

It's not like I bought some garbage black friday 200$ laptop. I have a higher expectation for a company trying to sell me a 'best in class' product. I'm not worried about the cost of receiving support either - I want quality.

edit: GX501 parts aren't on that site. I saw a post by a reseller on reddit saying they are unable to source chargers for the Zephyrus.... though I can't find that post anymore. I've sent a request to the one you posted and also to XoticPC since they're a reseller of the laptop.

No results for 0A001-00391200 (apparently this is the correct part number in fine print on the adapter I have)

Since I now have the part number... there are results for it in various euro asus part stores. All of them say no stock for 20+ days.

This non-english one is the 29th: https://webshop.looppartners.com/asus-ac-adapter-230w-195v/cat-p/c/p9843589/cc_sek/l_sv

This english one says 22 days, but when I put in my information it says I won't get it till jan 15th, even with next day air: https://www.eafsupplychain.com/Product/AU-0A001-00391200 Price is 154$ shipped, about what i'd expect for a 230w power brick. But since it's still not in stock.. I am extremely hesitant to order it.

Here they have it as call for availability. https://www.kingsfieldcomputers.co.uk/pgProduct.cfm?Product=19001_285_1460853-0A001-00391200--AC-ADAPTER-230W-Without-Power-Cord

I appreciate the replies guys. Wish this was as simple as going to Amazon, Newegg, Zones, BestBuy, TigerDirect, or any of the US based resellers for a power adapter and punching in what i'm looking for.

I'm in the same boat here. My AC adapter model number for my Zephyrus is 0A001-00391000 though. I still haven't found a place to pick an OEM AC adapter, If I find one I'll post back.

Well I got a reply back from XoticPC

Hello <Jeslijar> ! Thanks for your email! :)

I do apologize, ASUS is very strict about not giving us any additional or replacements on the chargers. We do not have any in our facility.

I'll try the asus service center so they can tell me ASUS isn't capable of providing additional adapters. I've got about one week before the 30 day warranty deadline is over, after that i'll almost certainly just return the laptop.

I've emailed them a request with:

Any idea where I can buy an additional power adapter for a GX501VIK serial# <redacted>?

Lets say I lost mine and have no adapter, what do I do to get another one? I have spent a few days looking for US and Europe based resellers and have found a total of 0 with the adapter in stock. I'm looking for an OEM adapter, not a chinese knockoff / generic.

Thanks.

Will give an update when I get more info.

Hello <Jeslijar>,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Technical Support.
My name is Rakeem D.

I do understand you have a purchase query, I did go ahead and checked our ASUS eShop and I do regret to inform you that we do not have the requested power adapter for a GX501VIK
{ ADAPTER 230W 19.5V 3P(6PHI) }
available.

You can however check with our authorized resellers. Linked below is our where to buy feature where you’ll find a complete list of resellers:

http://promos.asus.com/us/where_to_buy/

To assist with your search for the OEM adapter of the device a part number will be also provided
0A001-00391200

Later/Tomorrow i'll shoot off an email to the product inqury email for a chunk of authorized sellers. It's a wild goose chase though since it's obviously not available from the seller list. ASUS simply cannot supply laptop chargers for their 2700$ laptops. Lose yours? Have it stolen? Have your buddy's kid spill their drink on it? Yeah, might as well buy a new laptop.

I posted a link to OEM chargers if you must have two.
If your current one craps under warranty they will replace it.

There are many reasons why a warranty repair might not be an option in the event of a power supply failure. I know! I work in IT and have seen dozens of chargers die from reasons that are not covered by a manufacturer warranty. Plus if my charger dies 366 days after purchase I may not be able to find another one.

Still waiting to hear back from Zandparts Support (vendor you linked). I gave them my serial yesterday. Emailed them about a week ago and they wanted my serial to track down the part. I'll let you know what they come back with!

Ultimately the product page for what they'll come back to me with simply states "remote stock". http://www.asusparts.eu/en/Asus-0A001-00391200

According to reviews "remote stock" typically means they have no source for the item. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.zandparts.com

Just got a reply back from Microcenter (on their authorized resellers list.) They stock and sell the laptop. (http://www.microcenter.com/product/481743/ROG_Zephyrus_GX501VI-XS74_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Black)

Greetings,

Unfortunately, this isn't a product we carry. Currently there is no ETA on when or if we would have the AC adapter for this laptop.

Thank you,

Josh S.
MCOL

The search continues.

Edit: It might seem weird that i'm so concerned about this... but literally the charger is the one thing keeping me from sticking with this laptop. I love the thing. The adapter situation is just absurd though.

Remote stock usually means its ordered from the manufacturer.
The only reasons warranty doesnt cover failed items of any kind is when its not a result of hardware failure and can be linked to misuse/abuse, doesnt matter if you work in IT or not.
With the machine being a new release it takes awhile for parts to filter down. ASUS is not alone in these limitations. Most manufacturers consumer releases have limited availability of parts, however working in IT you should be aware that all commercial machines parts are easily sourced. This is why there are so many aftermarket bricks available. My employer provided workstation, Lenovo P50 (Xeon with Quadro graphics) has widely available power adapters and our internal support dept buys them by the hundreds.

So you're arguing that it's perfectly fine that there is zero current ways to buy an official Asus power adapter for a laptop released June 9, 2017 (according to Amazon). It's been 190 days. That's cool, completely irrelevant to finding a solution. We obviously have a difference in opinion as to what is acceptable so we can agree to disagree.

Still looking for a solution to the problem!

I too would like this for personal reasons.
Particularly because I move between various locations and would like to leave my adapters there rather than having to carry it around with me and introduce unnecessary stress on the cables.

+1. Totally would like to buy an additional one or two extra OEM adapters.

Hi again,

This is the charger for your unit:

http://www.zandparts.com/en/Asus-0A001-00391200

This is excluding the powercord itself into the wall.

Parts with stock status "Remote stock" are not available in our local stock and has to be ordered from Asus. It usually takes around 2-4 weeks for us to receive these parts upon order and we normally ship the parts the same day we receive them.

I asked him if he could check with ASUS to see if they would actually get the part. He said he would ask them and get back to me.

At this point i'm essentially set on returning the unit. I think I technically have one more day left to bring the system into the microsoft store and pay 150$ for a two year accidental damage plan (crazy deal on a 2700$ laptop).

Also got another response back from ASUS Support... telling me to contact ASUS eshop support...

Hello <Jeslijar>,

Thank you for response to ASUS Technical Support, my name is Romaine. I understand that you were in correspondence with another representative on your current issue but I will be happy to also assist on this matter.

I must apologize for the delayed response and understand your frustration. Your current issue after reviewing the case information is that you are having issues getting a charger for your Asus GX501VIK notebook.

Brandon, given the issue and recommendations already made, we recommend contacting our Eshop department directly as they would have more detailed options to choose. Please use this contact link to do so: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/843?_ga=2.146225972.1856333619.1513598572-1036791118.1509374845

Asus eshop support gave me essentially an identical canned message as the warranty support.

Hello <Jeslijar>,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Store Support, my name is Shaquille.

I apologize that you are not able to find the charger for your Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501VIK but I will be more than happy to assist you.

I regret to inform you that we do not have the charger available for sale at the moment. The Asus ROG Zephyrus GX501VIK are relatively new and a charger is not available for sale as yet.

Part number for charger: 0A001-00391200

You can however check with our authorized resellers. The link below is our Where To Buy feature where you’ll find a complete list of resellers:

http://promos.asus.com/us/where_to_buy/

Note that I forwarded them the email chain with warranty support, so the guy either read it and ignored it or didn't even bother reading the chain at all. Maybe it's policy to only send canned messages no matter what the first email says. Who knows.

On the other hand zandparts got back to me with a confirmation that they can get the chargers... in February.

Hi again,

I contacted our supplier for a picture and information and got a reply with a picture so the part seems to be somthing that can be ordered.

I see that we have some on backorder and the ETA is unfortunately in february.

attached was a photo of the charger without a power adapter cable (standard PC 3 prong cable though, so that's trivial)

I'd say Zandparts is a great place to get parts from based on their customer support. Still doesn't help me with getting a charger any time soon.

I emailed Asus eshop back for kicks just to see if they'll tell me to try warranty support or something else funny. I feel bad for the support guys who can't really do anything for a customer.

I'll probably post my reply from the asus eshop, but the laptop is going back to the microsoft store. I have some serious projects for the next week at work so it might not be in jan, but i'm done. GG ASUS, you win, I won't get a second charger. I feel so bad for anyone who loses theirs though... months with a 2700$ paperweight would be rough.

Hello <Jeslijar>,

I regret to inform you that the charger is not available through our Asus Online Store. Currently the charger is not available for sale in the North America region. You may have to source the charger outside of the North America region.

I apologize for any inconveniences caused.

We value your business, thank you for being a part of the ASUS family.

So I returned the system last night.

To anyone looking for a charger, your best bet is probably zandparts and waiting till feb or later. I'm done.

JustinThyme's link worked for me, thank you!
Lead time was quoted at 3-4 weeks as Jeslijar mentioned, but it's ordered so I'll have a spare at least.

I ordered the AC Adapter and Power Cord matching my part numbers links below.

http://www.zandparts.com/en/Asus-0A001-00391000

http://www.zandparts.com/en/Asus-14G11006032D

Also as a side note to anyone else considering ordering an adapter, it seems to be cheaper to have them ship it directly to my address in the states than my forwarding address in the UK due to VAT.

^ I also haven't received a PM back from the ASUS employee who posted in this thread -- I'd give up on that.
I love my Zephyrus, but emailed ASUS telling them I am a bit unhappy that the 1070 version charger has a bigger brick than the 1080, and eventually segued that into requesting to buy a second charger. Unclear which version is on offer in the email -- larger or smaller brick.

TL;DR: official version via email for $150, or semi-official (?) for $114: http://www.asusparts.eu/Asus-0A001-00391200 http://www.asusparts.eu/en/Asus-14G11006032D

Just read the cl-Albert Post, so disregard the post below unless you guys like some light reading, HA!

So,, just like some of you on this thread, i purchased this ASUS laptop as well. It is just amazing to me that the adapters are still not available to purchase. I have read the thread and I too would like to grab not only an extra adapter, but maybe 2 or 3. I have a DELL laptop for my work and have this ASUS for civilian/fun times. The last thing i need is to lug around 2 battery adapters in my backpack everywhere i go. On the DELL, I have one connected in the office, two at home, and one in the vehicle. Call me crazy, but it is efficient and you will never have to worry about a charge. And if you all know about these laptop chargers/adapters, they will fail. I have replaced the DELL's numerous times, because you sometimes get a bad batch , poor build materials, or it just went out.

So, why is this adapter so special that it takes us to hire private investigators, satellite time, drone surveillance to find just one replacement? Does ASUS not know that if they have them in stock or for purchase that dumb guys like me will make them money on the side and keep me typing away on this $2700 laptop?

I bought 3 on amazon, thinking they were the ones. I have also looked at those fake websites that supposedly sell the adapters. But they are all fake. When i received the ones from Amazon, i compared the pin, and that is where the problem is. I think the pin is something like 5.7 mm or something like that. I bought a calibration tool to measure the inside of the pin, however, i am not calibration certified, so i am here to see if anyone can actually get the dimensions of the pin itself (outside and inside) and then maybe i can start looking for the actual pin. If i do find it, i will solder it to the wire and sacrifice my laptop to see if it holds a good charge. Yes, that is how desperate i am to find the solution. I made a mistake purchasing this laptop (Because of the charger), and i cant return it. So this is my baby, and i am tired of this non-finding scenario that we find ourselves in.

If anybody is out there willing to get the pin measurements it would be greatly appreciated. i am not going to buy another knock off adapter unless it is the real thing. For now, i will try to find the mysterious pin and try to make this work. As long as the power in and out is the same, the pin should work. No one has to try this, i will try this, and if it works, i will post the steps and stuff i bought to achieve this goal.

I want to thank the folks out there who wrote the emails, contacted people and are still looking for a solution, because without you , I would be left looking at the same solutions. So, Thanks Again.

So,

I have some good news. I ordered the new replacement batteries and they arrived today. So far, they are pretty good. Right now, I let my laptop run dry while playing Blade Runner 2049. The Laptop was at 9%, plugged the new adapter brick in there and it charged it 59% in 35 minutes while playing the movie. I have attached some pics so you guys can compare. Remember that i used cl-Albert's link.

I am glad to finally have this chapter closed. FYI, I ordered 2 of them and yes, they are pricey, but if you ordered this expensive gadget of a laptop, you might as well go all the way. Thanks again to all that fought the good fight get us here.

BeerAce, thanks so much for taking the plunge first. I'll be following your lead and getting the same.

One question -- does the new adapter come with the second cord that runs from adapter to wall outlet? It isn't shown in any pictures or mentioned in the description, but is shown in your photos.

In the event it doesn't, this looks to be a compatible cord for a good price: https://amazon.com/C2G-Cables-03134-Universal-IEC320C13/dp/B00005113L

If you're located in the U.S. and interested in the 230W adapter with 6mm diameter plug used by the GX501VI/K, try searching for the adapter pn 90XB04GN-MPW020 sold through distribution and refer to the 'where to buy' list for the authorized U.S. ASUS notebook resellers if you want to confirm they are selling our adapter.

Sorry for the delay, but looks like we are finally starting to sell the retail boxed 230W adapter with 6mm diameter plug for the GX501 series in the U.S. under pn , 90XB04GN-MPW020, but according to the pictures posted on the U.S. ASUS Store site, it appears to be the larger adapter although I haven't had a chance to confirm this myself.
Thanks.

Thank you but this item seems to have been out of stock for a while? last time I checked was 3 weeks ago.

I need to purchase a second power adapter for my GX501GI - power adapter model is ADP-230GB B

Thank you for any help with this.

fyi.

Sorry for the delay, but looks like we may be switching to a new 230W Adapter with 6mm tip part number 90XB05IN-MPW020 in the U.S. which unfortunately, doesn't appear to be quite here yet, so you may want to give it more time if possible and start looking for that part number later.

Otherwise, we don't sell the adapter in the U.S. under this part number, but the ASUS adapter part number without the fancy box (and power cord which most resellers would bundle separately) is 0A001-00391200. Normally third-parties would sell it under this part number, so make sure you're comfortable purchasing from them.
Also, not sure if they can always be considered brand new or not if it matters.

Thanks.

Thank you Albert. Going to do some more research with these part numbers and recommendations. I purchased the laptop recently in the US so I'm surprised they don't sell it right here since this power adapter came with it ;) I like it because it is not as big as the "brick" one. I see some ADP-230GB B selling off eBay and people seem to be happy with these so I will likely get one there.
