Only turns on, black screen only, will not boot. Hope it is only a driver issue.

Was surfing and had game going when screen went to white vertical bars. Video came back and gave a pop-up about how the video driver failed but was able to recover. Within a few minutes got the white vertical bars then screen went black. No response to soft boot, did a hard shut down. Now it turns on but does not boot: no splash screen, keyboard lights up then goes dark, and the only signs of life are the power button and the blue light between the screen and keyboard.

No help plugging in an external monitor - it did not even wake up / get a signal.

I am basically looking for a way to force a safe mode boot other than boot+F8 since it will not go even that far. I am hoping it just needs a driver update but unable to do that if it does not boot.

Otherwise, it is off to the store to debate the uses of a warranty.

Thanks in advance

You could try reseating the HDD(s) and memory. Also check out thread http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?8986-possible-doa
