This is a long shot but does anyone know the specs (thread sizes, lengths, etc) of the screws on a RIVG?I removed my PCH heatsink and my VRM heatsink to paint them and lost the lot lol.

I had the same symptoms, albeit with a RIVG, in the end it turned out it was due to the network device the machine was connected to, mental I know, maybe something to do with shielding? Anyway with the NIC unplugged it was fine so I ended up changing...
