Not a review, just an in depth introduction (up close and personal). The M8E is a beautiful mobo.

Hope the bios and drivers are worked out!!

Some motherboards are just made to be the best of the best, offering the newest and fastest technologies long before they become mainstream, these motherboards also feature the most advanced BIOS' and overengineered power delivery systems that can be fitted to them offering a world class overclocking experience and the ability to use features which won't be seen by mainstream PC builders for some time.

The ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus Extreme line of motherboards has many examples of these kinds of motherboard, a collection of engineering masterpieces on both the software and the hardware sides delivering some of the best overclocking performance generation after generation.

The Maximus VIII Extreme is ASUS' flagship motherboard for Intel's Skylake CPUs, offering several unique features for the platform like having a U.2 port on the motherboard to use with Ultra fast NVMe based storage to being able to create an Intel RAID Volume more easily within the ASUS BIOS with ASUS's EZ Wizard.

    Intel SSD Locations and Setup
I am probably going to use 2 750 series from intel (1.2TB each). Along with a dual SLI config (not sure on the graphics cards yet). Will I be able to get the maximum performance from the SSDs (given there is no software limitation) if I use the two bottom PCIe x16 lanes? or should I get one of them in the PCIe type, and plug it on the 3rd slot, and then get the other one in the 2.5in model and plug it on the m.2 port? Could someone explain the difference between the PCIe lane that goes through the CPU and the other one (4th x16 lane) that goes through PCH? Thanks

Hi vyras, this is a very good question.

You should start a new thread regarding this subject instead of burying it this thread.

you will get more response from the members like skunk and Korth.

But it is the bandwidth for the different lanes like

PCIe Gen 2 (500MBps per lane)

PCIe Gen 3 (1GBps per lane)

    x4 PCIe 2.0 provides 2GBps of bandwidth

Here is a video on Pauls Hardware with JJ explaining the Intel 750 and Asus mobos

Here is a crazy test from pcper that goes into detail of 5 750s in raid.Maybee your answer lies within the video

and here is the written review

    hope this helps

    Good Show Asus

Overall, there's little to be said about these boards that should come as much of a surprise. They both aim to be among the top of their segment, and will therefore come with the accompanying price tags. Considering the history, we can expect the Maximus VIII Extreme to sell for somewhere around the $300 mark, while the Maximus VIII Impact should hit closer to the $200 mark.

    Thanks
Thank you for your reply. I will be creating a new thread regarding my question. I watched the videos that you provided but it was not made clear how the Maximus VIII Extreme will react to 2 750 series since the videos were quite old. Thank you for your help!
