Running rampage VI Extreme original
Which microcode do you find to be better, 49 or 64, and why?
I just upped from your 1603 mod to the 2002 just due to a rebuild and wanted your thoughts.
Thanks for the work! -

With the 7000 series, I use microcode 49, designed to have a TJMax of 105° by default
The 9000 series is designed for a TJmax of 110° (default)
The microcodes beyond the 49 heat the cores more on the 7000 series (TJMax which goes from 105 to 110°)
But there is an operating bug with the AVX512, if the frequency is higher than 4200 with microcode 49 (No problem if the AVX512 frequency is lower therefore)
For me, and my opinion :D -

Microcode 49 was release before MDS Vulnerables SA-00233 disclosed and patched.
Microcode 5E which ASUS default 2002 BIOS (RVIE) use was already patched for Intel SA-00233 vulnerables.
For more info :: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...-sa-00233.html
Microcode 60 and 64 were optimized performance version of 5E.
Microcode 65 was testing for protect aginst

This kind of vulnerability has existed for over 15 years (Spectre, etc...) and it didn't bother anyone before, so I don't care :D

Thanks, Im running a 9940X so the 64 should be good for me especially running at 4.8GHZ all cores with no AVX offset.
I just remember some time back the 49 gave better temps. -

New microcode for Skylake-X and Cascade Lake-X
Skylake-X : 68
Cascade Lake-X : F00
If you want to test (for R6E and R6EE) ;) -

์Nice Info master tistou77.These MCU 68 may protect against those error above and these.

Thanks, also regarding your post few days ago where you said quote
"The microcodes beyond the 49 heat the cores more on the 7000 series (TJMax which goes from 105 to 110°)"
Could this be the reason why am getting high temps with my i9 7900x on the Asus Rampage VI Extreme Encore ? My cooling is exactly the same all I did was change the motherboard from Rampage VI Extreme to the Encore and my temps like raised by 7c -

Update!!! For Skylake X 65 and 68 MCU Master tistou77 :o
Attachment 84052
These 02000068 microcode and 02000065 microcode both can be boot at UEFI screen.
However it couldn't boot into UEFI Windows . OLED screen show " DETECT HDD A0 " then
stalled. Roll back to 02000064. :o
Lastest stable microcode for Intel TSX Abort Asynchronus Vulnerable / SA-00270 was 02000064 :o

Note :: Test both your modded file and my file result were the same. " DETECT HDD A0 " and stalled. -

Would using Bios 0505 microcode 49 on a 10 gen cpu like a i9 10900x make any difference in temps since the tjmaxx is 105 ?
-
02-13-2020, 06:57 PMtistou77
49 or 68 microcode are for Skylake-X
It's F00 for Cascade Lake-X
the 2 bios have the same microcode for Cascade Lake-X ;) -

I do not know, must test between that of bios 040x, the 12C of bios 0505 (some have had problems with this one)
And the F00 of bios 0505 modded -

Regarding the TJ Max again and this is for the i9 10900x in bios I set the Maximum core temperature to 105 and in core temp the TJ Max is also showing 105. Before it was on TJ Max 110 when Maximum core temperature was set to auto. So can't this be done for the 7000 series cpu also just set the Maximum core temperature regardless if the microcode is higher then 49?
-
02-13-2020, 09:14 PMtistou77
When we set this option in the bios, setting it to 100 or 105 or other, limits the maximum temperature but the core temperature is always based on a TJmax of 110° (this setting is only set by the microcode)
I had done (and others) several tests on this setting -

Thanks for the microcode 68 for bios 2002 Rampage VI Extreme, but i have tested it, i cannot boot to either usb drive or NVME PCIE, it just stop, the LED indicator in my case doesn't shows any read/write activity. Flashed back into 49 or 64 make it work again and able to boot, please check it out.
[EDIT]
Missed restsugavan message, so we should wait for intel to finalized it? -
02-15-2020, 09:42 AMrestsugavanIntel 02000068 SA-00329 mitigation issues
Lastest update! @Biozz able to modded R6E Encore BIOS 0505 working with 02000068 microcode. The 02000068 microcode design to address Intel SA-00329 CacheLeak data vulnerables. For me I had trying many way to modded 2002 Bios via UBU/FIT/UEFI inset,...etc. everything won’t boot Into Windows 10 19564.1005 correctly their are “ CHECKING HDD A0 “ error then stalled. Look like Shamino and his team locking microcode revision on 2002 bios we need to waiting new bios revision . There are something abnormal on W10 19564.1005 kernel too, normally Windows 10 which has new microcode will load the newest microcode revision rather than Bios microcode. AKA it must load 02000068 when running W10 19654.1005 but It load my bios modded 02000064 microcode instead. Now I’d contact W10 insiders teams and let them knowing these issues then waiting their reply to grant W10 insider next build to load 02000068 by default  **

Having in mind vulnerabilities grow and grow up, meaning MC 68 could not protect against everything, MC 60 is not a bad idea because of its performance...
We at last had our new Bios's, due on December 29th and uploaded finally on February 15th 2020... -

Very BIG thanks to our fried Tistou that keeps this thread fresh and up to date.
You should open like a My fan page mate haha.
I was about to flash the 2002-68 BIOS for my RV6 when I noticed that there is a new BIOS update.
I am still on my trusted 7900x at 4.6 AIO AVX -1 so I will try your new BIOS 68-3006.
I look forward to buy this year the cascade lake X 18 CORE CPU.
Cheers. -

Which modded bios would be best for performance and reliability on the R6E? I already saw a couple of posts saying negative things about microcode 68.

Not me. My system running smooth:cool:
Microcode 68 prevent cache leak vulnerable Intel SA-00329.

So I see Tisou released 3006 with microcode 68. (Thank you by the way for all the work you do, Tisou!!!!)
Then we have a new microcode of 69 on the other link but i'm not sure which one is the one we should use for the Rampage VI on the link given.
What is the difference between the two and which is better? -
02-27-2020, 10:50 AMvmanuelgm
For 7xxx and 9xxx LGA 2066 cpus the one to be used in the link I posted is the 50654 MC 69. The other one is for another platform and is a different version, F00.
If u ask the difference between MC 68 and MC 69, obviously MC 69 is newer and guess more refined. First time I see this kind of fast release after releasing some days ago a previous version only separated by one digit (HEX).
I had commented MC 68 was pulled off from Insider 19569 after being introduced in Insider 19564.
