    Hi stixix,

Due to Double Tenth Day holiday, sorry for late reply.
May I double confirm do you face the same issue with CMK32GX4M2B3200C16?
Is there no ram q-led, beep codes with no ram installed? Do you also have to turn off PSU and back then power it back on and you will get ram q-led or beep codes?
    Thank you.

Yes I face the same issue with CMK32GX4M2B3200C16 -

I have not tested it without RAM - remember this is periodically and I have to remove the CPU heat sink when removing the RAM, so this i not an easy task.

I can confirm that when the computer doesn't turn on, there is no q-led or beep codes. There is light in the START button on the MB - nothing happens if I press power button or START button directly on MB. After I turn off PSU and back on, I get a regular boot without any beep codes - and the q-led cycles through it's standard codes until boot successfully.

    Hi stixix,

I'm afraid our tech team cannot duplicate this issue with the ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO motherboard on hand.
Have you replaced other power supply but faced the same issue?
    Thank you

Replaced with a be quiet! SFX-L Power 600W PSU - Even worse. This time it didn't power on until I hit the clear cmos button. https://youtu.be/NAJ41_gcWt8 and https://youtu.be/qCzzdZaHjXs

What to do? I live in DK, and I am covered by Danish warranty - So if you can confirm that it is defective, I can contact the shop for a replacement.

    No Startup
Hi I have the exact same problem as many other users have reported either on this thread or on other forums.
The problem clearly comes from the board. Many of us including me changed the power supply, the ram, some even the CPU and the problem was still there.
All I have to do is turn the toggle switch from the psu to on/off and everything works and overclocks fine.

The question is: Will a Bios Update Fix the issue, should we RMA the board right now?

    Thanks

I 99% believe a bios update cannot fix this, as we are talking about the very first thing a board does when turning on - even before anything from the bios kicks in.

In regards to RMA - I really think they should acknowledge that they have some faulty boards, so people like us will stay faithful to the brand. I have been buying Asus products for as long as I remember - and I always recommend it whenever I'm consulted - hopefully I'll be able to continue doing this going forward.

You should try search Asus Dominus Extreme problems. 2000 USD Board. First batch has misplaced two resistors and in certain conditions refuse to boot. And i never heard that Asus put out statement yea we F*up so sent it back for repair.

[solved] How I got into BIOS after update
After updating to BIOS v3801 I could no longer enter BIOS - got the Black Screen instead.

I got around the problem by changing my video card-to-monitor interface from my normal Display Port to HDMI. (I found an on-line you tube suggesting this).

As crazy as it sounds, it worked. I made my changes in BIOS configuration, saved and exited. Now I'm back on Display Port and normal usage is fine. I just have to over to HDMI for future BIOS changes.

    Good luck!

    Hi stixix,

Could you please send the motherboard to the retailer and then send it to our service center for further examination?
May I have the RMA number via PM after sent it to our service center?

    Hi Vpazz,

How often did it occur?(for example: if you start three times a day, once of them is not boot? ) only occurred while cold restart?
Did you faced the issue since used the ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO to build pc or after any update or components changed?
If you have tried different cpu, ram and power supply but encounter the same issue, may I have the bios version and model name of the cpu, ram and power supply you used?
    Thank you.

Hi Starrain, I have the exact same problem. I believe that this is not a boot problembut rather something going wrong when the PC gets turned off. I have Aura in stealth mode and sometimes when i shut down the PC the Start button on the Board remains lit when it should be off due to stealth mode. When this happens the PC wont turn on again, neither by pressing the Power button on the case or by pressing the Start button on the board directly. I cant reproduce it consistently but what I recognized was that if I played a demanding game like Far Cry 6 with Ray Tracing and immediately shut down the PC after closing it happens much more frequently than when I play less demanding games like CSGO or when I just hang out in Teamspeak for about 30mins after closing Far Cry.

My Setup is Crosshair Dark Hero with Ryzen 5900x and 3090 Founders Edition. I am using a brand new Corsair HX1000 PSU, I tried my brothers CX750 and it did not make a difference. I tried multiple Ram kits, some were on the QVL, some were not and it did not make a difference at all.

I am currently using BIOS 3601 but the Problem did occur on versions prior to 3601.

Whenever the problem occurs I just unplug the PSU and wait a few minutes unti the Start button on the board stops glowing white. When I then plug the PSU in again my PC can start normally.

I hope that this helps in fixing it.
    Best regards.

    Same with longer sleep mode
My ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero won't wake up if it sleeps for a few hours. No problems when I wake it within a few minutes, 30 minutes or so, no idea.
If it won't wake up, pressing the power button or reset button won't work too. I have to power off the PSU and press the power button for ~15 seconds until the power is totally gone. WOL works within the small time limit and stops working if the PC sleeps for a few hours (doing nightly backups automatically using WOL, RTC would be an option too).

I am using a be quiet! Dark Power 12 (1000 W) PSU, RTX 3080, Ryzen 5900X. Default BIOS settings. Currently testing ERP (enabled), maybe this will solve it, but I don't think so.

I changed to the Dark Hero from a Gigabyte Aorus Master because the MB made trouble (sometimes 2,5 Gbit LAN is gone, sometimes BIOS navigation super slow and so on). Sleep mode worked perfectly with the Aorus Master.

Also did a fresh install of Windows 10 (latest version) + drivers and so on.
Next is to test a longer hibernate state instead of sleep (but hibernate takes too long to wake up).

BIOS initial version was 3601. I have updated to 3801.

Asus phone support told me to enable ErP.

If this doesn't work I should remove the battery and place it reverted in the socket for max. 1 minute and don't turn the PC on. Then place the battery the correct way and boot.

If this won't work... doing a CMOS reset.

I don't think that will help.

Some other users have the same problem: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1307...mment-15053100

ErP (S4+S5) test for a sleep duration for about 9 hours worked. System woke up. BIOS version 3801.

Putting into sleep (not hibernate!) and wake within a few seconds also works. Tested it 5 times. Such a short sleep duration worked before too, or I haven't run into problems.

Will post an update if it has stopped working or if it works a few days.

    Hi STARRAIN@ROG,

only after sleep/hibernate mode. Default BIOS settings.
It happened only and always if the PC was turned on an set to sleep mode for a longer time (few hours+). No problems when wake it up from sleep within 30 minutes so.
I got a new be quiet PSU and had a be quiet PSU before (pro models, from 850 to now 1000W).

Before my call with Asus I have enabled ErP. After enabling the ErP mode it worked every time.
    - 9 hours sleep (wake by keyboard)
    - 4 hours sleep (wake by WOL)
    - 5 sleep & fast wake tests within a few seconds

Will send you the SN later if I can read it without removing the GPU or so, I am currently at work. Will also tell if it will wake up when I am back at home.

Maybe not relevant, but some people reported sleep/wake problems with the 3080/3090:
I upgraded my GPU from 2080S to a 3080 directly with the new MB. I had a GPU riser (Fractal Design) and I undervolted my 3080 because of coil whine (fixed the coil whine). Quiet coil whine at high FPS, but deep and loud sounding coil whine (not the fans, I have loosened the screws and tighten them - that again fixed the fan noise...) at about 60 FPS+. And random crashes in games and sometimes BSoD with video scheduler internal error after a few seconds directly after a fresh reboot (no game or heavy GPU app started). Sometimes the PC turned on, screen was black and GPU fans turned 100%, only turning off the PSU helped (like described above the power/reset button doesn't work). Removing the GPU riser seems to fix these crashes/problems but not the wake from sleep problems. Never had these problems with my 2080S but yeah, maybe something happened to the cable or connectors because I changed the cards a few time, but that shouldn't be happen that fast.

    Hey together,

i'm in with this problem now.
Got my Dark Hero 4 weeks ago and everything worked fine until last thursday, when it decided to not turn on unless switch the psu off, wait a bit and on again.
As with all the others there are no post-codes nor any beeps.
The system runs stable even under hard conditions, like Cyberpunk, Farcry or even VR.
    BIOS Version: 3801

    Specs:
    Corsair HX850 (850W Plus Platinum)
    ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

    Ryzen 9 3900X
    32 GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengance LPX CMK32GX4M4B3200C16
Asus ROG Strix Geforce 3080TI 12GB OC

    Additional Cards:
    Elgato HD Pro
    Creative Soundblaster ZxR

    2x Samsung NVME 2TB
    2x Samsung SATA SSD
    2x Western Digital Black HDD

The only thing changed since i assembled my build is an upgrade from an Asus ROG Strix 2070S OC to the above mentioned 3080TI.
The PSU Single/Multi switch is set to "Multi"
All 3 necessary 8-Pin Power cables are seperate lines from the PSU.

2 days ago i loaded the defauls in BIOS and turned Aura and USB-Charge off when the PC is off.
After that it worked completely normal until i got home from work today.
Like all the others the START-Button on the board was bright lit and it didn't react to it nor the normal case-power-button.

As for the "when" it happens. No real pattern here.
2 days ago after the default and reconfigure i played like 4 hours New World and a bit of Cyberpunk and VR.
Yesterday evening i was only coding and fiddling with ssh, so no load at all.

The system is not OC at all. Everything left at default values, only the RAM is set to it's mentioned 3,2 GHz.
And as mentioned above the system ist runnning 100% stable, no BSOD, no crash, no slowdowns, no drive errors under everything i tossed at it.

Migrated from an ROG Strix X570-F due to some problems there and for the extra power, but made everything new. So there's no old windows installation either.

Really hope you guys at ASUS can figure this one out.
If you need logs or anything of whatever, let me know.
    Thank you

ErP S4+S5 didn't fixed it. It worked only a few times:

    - 2x keyboard wake after 9 hours
    - 2x WOL (wanted!) wake after about 4 hours
    - multiple wakes after shorter sleeps

But now after a sleep for about 10 minutes I had to turn off the PSU to be able to boot.

Now testing ErP S4+S5 (will only S5 make a change?) and Aura off.

I had hibernate enabled (powercfg -h on), now disabled it: powercfg -h off

Also I am using psshutdown to send my PC into sleep mode.
    psshutdown -d -t 0 -accepteula

    Quote:

    -d Suspend the computer
    -h Hibernate the computer
So I guess powercfg -h off won't make a change and I am all the time in the high performance power plan.

    Hi Xairoo,
May I double confirm it occurred on 3601 and 3801?
Is [Turn on fast startup (recommended)] not ticked in additional power settings?
May I have the specific model name of the ram such as G.SKILL F4-4400C19D-16GTZSW? Is it in our qvl list?

Happened to 3601 and 3801 (updated to 3801 because of this problem).

Fast startup @ Windows is currently turned off (did that before I enabled ErP). Will turn it on in Windows (have to enable hibernate `powercfg -h on` again to set this option).
Also disabled @ BIOS - should I enable it @ BIOS too?

Very very common RAM (placed on rank 4 at Switzerlands biggest online shop, rank 4 at amazon.de and rank 11 at amazon.com): Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 16GB, DDR4-3200, CMK32GX4M2E3200C16
4 modules in total. But it's not on the list.
No XMP (or how Asus calls this @ BIOS) profile set.

    Hey Starrain,

yes, for about 2 weeks i used the 2070S OC with the Dark Hero without any issues After the upgrade the 3080TI worked for about 1.5 weeks without any issues, too.
The 2070S worked for about 2 years with the prior mentioned ROG Strix x570-F and the old PSU.

I bought the Corsair 850W PSU together with the Dark Hero to rule out any issues i had with my old Setup and for the upgrade to the 3080TI.
According to the sensor readings (12V, 5V, 3,3V) everything on the PSU side is more than stable and ok. All other sensors including the temps are low to normal, even under heavy load.
CPU is cooled by a Noctua NH-D15, Case is cooled by 3x200mm and 1x180mm case fans with a correct calculated airflow.

Sadly i can't try the old power supply (Be Quiet Power Zone 650W), as it isn't powerful enough to fire up the system together with the 3080TI and i don't have any other PSUs around, as they're very expensive and hard to get here in germany atm.

As Xairoo mentioned i change the BIOS Setting "ErP" from "Disabled" to "S5" and after that i could boot after 6hrs off-time this morning.

There are three QVL lists for ram and heap approved on them, not sure why you can't purchase right ram in right quantity for your motherboard that passed QVL.

Good luck, but I'm not wasting any time on this request. I own enough Ryzen CPU's from gen 1 to current to be happy with my statement about LPX. You do what you want with that but my systems all work @ DOCP or higher.

at best you might get 2x16 working @ DOCP, 4x16 never going to happen unless you won loot box lottery in which case give over the version number of the LPX ram, nah scatch that it wont be any use.

Not sure why you believe I bought that RAM for this board. But okay ;-)

I am running a nearly full server rack with 19" servers with a mix of EPYC's and Xeon's and ton's of RAM and many Tesla GPUs (running some AI/transcoding stuff). Never had any problems because of the RAM. Also never with XMP and DOCP. And the funny thing is: We use only LPX RAM in our workstations without any problems. But yeah, you must know ;-)

A little update from my side.

It seems that your tip @Xairoo is kinda working here.
As posted above i switched the ErP to S5 (bc i only shutdown the system, never hibernate it, so S4 is not interesting on my side) and the PC started after 9 hrs off-time without any problem. I shut it down again and after 1 hr it started again like it should to.

As far as i know ErP cuts the max off-power to 1W and cuts off USB-Charging, WoL, WoK, WoM, so _maybe_ the Dark Hero somehow doesn't power down correctly, but has to with the ErP activated. Pure speculation, but maybe this helps to resolve this.

No S5 yet because WOL and sleep is required. Thought S5 is shutdown only and sleep disabled.
No answer @ shutdown because it's combined for me with a hardware change (and PSU off).

Fastboot enabled @ Windows resulted in not working WOL after 4 hours and no response (keyboard, power button) after 8 hours. Now I disabled fastboot again.

Will a S5 test help Asus? I can test it. Fastboot @ Windows enabled? Sleep or shutdown? Let me know.

    Hi

I don't think it har arrived at the support center yet. Can you do without the RMA number? It seems that it is not possible for the retailer to get the service center RMA number since they ship it off to a distributor , that sends it to the service center.

i usually only start the pc one time a day, when i'm home from work, and shut it down in the evening before going to bed. May vary on weekends depending on how often i leave my home then, but never more than 3 startup/shutdowns a day.
At the moment i'm just starting a bit more often to help diagnose this error.

    For the BIOS-to-default part:
i did that before i posted here the first time. With everything on default it worked for around 1 day, or two startups, and after that the error was back.

With the ErP setting on "S5" i had today morning the 3rd day of successful startups in a row.

    Hi Xairoo,
Your pc won't wake up after sleep/hibernate mode, but others are can not startup after shutdown, so I'm not sure the issue is same as others or not.
I'll consult our tech team about this.
    Thank you.

    Hi stixix,
I'm afraid I have no idea when the distributor will send your motherboard to our local service center.
However, I'll check whether there is a RMA record of your serial number every week.
    Thank you.

    Hi WorldofShadows,
You said "i loaded the defauls in BIOS and turned Aura and USB-Charge off when the PC is off", that's why I want to double confirm BIOS all default settings.
I'm afraid our tech team cannot duplicate the not startup issue with the motherboard on hand, so we are waiting for stixix is willing to send the motherboard to our service center for further examination.
Because it is not convenient for you to try other PSU, so I'm not sure whether your are willing to send RMA and whether it cannot be duplicated with the components in our service center.
If it occurs often and you are willing to send RMA, may I have the serial number and RMA number via PM?
    Thank you.
