From my experience with Asus Maximus XI series boards, this happens when the ram is on the edge of stability (even if all the ram tests in widows seem stable).

I have a somewhat similar experience with a Gskill 3200 C14 kit:

1602 bios: 3900 C16 stable @1.3V; 4000 C16 stable @1.5V; 4100 C17 often fails to post
1704 bios: 3900 C16 now requires 1.4V; 4000...

I noticed that most of the time the MemOK! issues are related to vccio and vccsa instead of vram. It's worth testing :)

Did you overclock the ram? If yes, try to tune down the ram overclock (or increase vccio/vccsa) a little bit to see if it fixes the issue.

Is the BIOS settings save function on a USB stick implemented directly in the bios? For some reason I thought it didn't work if they were reloaded on an updated version of the bios.
