i really think so. my next laptop will be probably an alienware or a MSI gaming notebook.

I have several issues with the g74. Crappy touchpad, flickering on dark backgrounds, dead battery after 2 months.
Asus replaced everything but they did nothing...

battery dead. same happenend to me. 2 months after purchased. asus replaced it.

update: if it supports 3D it must be hdmi 1.4.

it is a very interesting question that never crossed my mind upon buying my g74.. i spend 2hrs on the web reading about this.

Max CPU temp: 65º
Max Case temp: 75º
Max GPU temp: 60ºc

You didn't specify what model you have, mine is g74, with bios 203.

my g74 travels in the back of my car and it has fallen a few times. no problems to report.

is there any way to have ATK package and Wireless Console working? is there any chance of having properties, compability tab, windows 7 to make it work?

Install Windows 7 from DVD.
Keep the 30gb partition (it's the Asus Express Gate Cloud linux)

Install all the drivers. nvidia, realtek, sentellic/synaptics etc etc,
Install only Asus ATK package...

i installed windows from 0. And forgot the THX crap. With the driver + software from realtek i managed to get a better sound quality. i use the equalizer in POWERFUL mode.

same here! had do the same with my g74, and 2 HP Pavilions..

the g74 was a power adapter of 150W..
Take a look at this

Idling: 43W
Full load: 137W!

BTW, the Alienware M18x has a consumption between 50 and 305 Watt

if i were you i would ship to ASUS. I did (waited 4 weeks) and they replaced the crap sentellic touchpad for the synaptics one! It's a complete different machine.

it doesn't have Numlock key, but it acts like the numlock key is always pressed.
