After advice on 1.4v+ overclocking
Hi,
Long time overclocker, forever lurker.
Ive had this rig for about 9 months, Basicly Its been running stable 5.05Ghz @ 1.32v for 9 months. Today I updated the bios, pushed all cores to 51 (5.25Ghz BCLK 103.25 for 4266 mem) @ adaptive 1.37v, XMP Working, LL6, cache 46, vccio and agent auto (hahaha) no issues booting, just passed 4 hour realbench with no AVX offset and 8 hours on P95 no issues. Max temp was 78 degrees according to realbench.
My question is where do I stop? Any other settings in the BIOS you recommend playing with? I really have not changed much. I did not even have to play around to XMP working.
To go one ratio higher I will need to break 1.4v which I understand is the safe limit.
Mess with the BCLK? Keep going to 52? Bin it and upgrade to z370?
Rig:
Asus M9A with Monoblock
7700K delided
2 x 8Gb Gskill 4266Mhz b-die (XMP timings) ROG mode 2 1.4v
1500w PSU
420mmx45mm rad
360mmx60mm rad
120mmx60mm rad
Dual D5, 1L res.
18 Corsair ML fans
Cheers

Probably should mention it was 40+ degrees outside when I was benching it, no ac inside
. I was wary of 1.4v after my initial research, keeping balanced power settings in windows and adaptive voltage should not harm it that much???
Tempted to BLCK tweak, the extra pcie bus speed couldn't hurt the 1080 ti...
Might go big and feed 1.5v to the RAM and see how high I can get with BCLK. SPD>Timings for what i am using it for anyway. Keep ideas comming.

The BCLK overclocks pretty high on z270 but it doesn't seem to benefit much.
Here's watchdogs 2 at 5.3GHz, cache at 5.0GHz with 1.52v and the BCLK at 312.50
The Bus Clock is the BCLK

1.4 volts vcore is fine with your cooling setup, I would not exceed 1.45, check Silicon Lottery for the voltage needed on there binned 5.2GHZ chip and see if that is stable for you, I personally would not use much higher for daily use. as for memory there is the Raja 4133 @ 1.4 volt preset in the bios that gives better performance with tighter timings than 4266 and XMP timings, VCCIO and VCCSA on auto typically runs a higher voltage on these rails than may be required, this is where manually tuning these voltages comes into play, by lowering voltages lowers temperatures and can improve stability, higher voltage is not always better here
Overclocking blck on modern Intel platforms gives no gains compared to using multiplier and is only required for certain memory speeds, it may or may not affect your GPU but also can negatively affect NVME drive speeds, USB device speeds and functionality, even network speeds can see a negative reaction to blck overclocking

ok, played a little.
5.3 @ 1.42 stable for 2 hours of pubg but might test some more.
BLCK 105, after advice on negative impacts I went from 204 back to 105 (1.75oc)
Interstingly RAM stable at 4360 with XMP @ 1.45v
Cache at 5Ghz.

Wow that is awesome giblol, you have a golden 7700k and is one of the highest overclocks on a 7700k I've seen.
My 7700k at 5.3GHz with 1.52v could play games but could not pass a stress test and before delidding, I could not boot to windows at 5.3GHz.
Now to overclock your 1080 Ti's, you should see a 10 - 20 FPS increase and at 1080p probably more.
I'm not sure if you're aware but you can game at 4k resolution (3840 x 2160) using the DSR Factors setting in the Nvidia Control Panel.Last edited by Nate152; 02-14-2018 at 11:44 PM.
