Wireless / Bluetooth headset - Rampage Motherboard A2DP

Just bought the Sennheiser PXC 550 wireless (Bluetooth) headset to use when gaming. However, I get no sound from the headset unless its very very close to the back of the PC, and then no more than 15-30 cm away from the IO. This though provides only distorted sound. If I move the headset further away I get no sound. The headset works perfectly when paired to my Iphone.

My motherboard is the Asus ROG Rampage VI which comes with Bluetooth 4.1 and has what the manual calls Bluetooth 4.2 ports on the IO.

It took quite some fuss to pair it3 and have it recognised as an audio playback device. Only source I can find of others with similar problems hints at the requirement for A2DP - Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. I have paired a Bluetooth watch, which works fine so Bluetooth seems fine. Have the latest Bluetooth driver available for the MB (from Asus).

I have no other wireless headset to try with, any suggestions ?
