Is it difficult to replace the hinge on a Zenbook Flip UX360CA?

My hinge is somewhat broken

The one on the left doesn't "support" itself so the top panel just falls down. Also when it's open at 90 degrees, the left side of the screen kind of dips in a weird way.

I'm going to remove the keyboard panel and see if I can do anything about it but I don't have much hope. I see replacement hinges available here:

http://www.asusparts.eu/partfinder/Asus/Notebook/U%20Series/UX360CA/Hinge#Hinge

So I may try and replace it myself (Asus Customer service wanted $510 to fix it... ridiculous, the laptop itself only cost 50 more than that!). But I haven't found any videos of a hinge replacement for this laptop so I'm not sure if it's really possible. Has anyone done something like that?

I see people doing similar things on other zenbooks on youtube, but not this particular model

It's not extremely difficult, but you have to be very careful with all the wires, on my UX360U they are partly concealed in the hinges. Mine has 2 screws on the.mainboard side, and 3 on the screen cover. I pry the LCD cover open with a creditcard to get to the latter, and unscrew all visible ones on the bottom cover. This is the first computer I have accidentally damaged after 30 years as an IT tech..... And it seem that hinges are only available from Asus partners for.my model....I also broke the digitizer panel, but got a new one from China...Good luck!

Had a UX360 hinge break on me too.

Can you give me any more information about the screen side disassembly? Is it glued in place or can I just access the screws for the hinge without having to resort to heat guns and so on?

Also, how are the wires for the display and touch connected/related to the hinge mechanism? Is there some area they have to pass through?

I've (partially) disassembled the laptop once (to verify that it was the hinge that was broken and that it needed to be replaced), but there isn't much information (teardowns, etc) that i've been able to find. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry for my late answer.. The LCD /digitizer is glued, so take care when prying it open. The digitizer might break. Use a hot air gun and take your time.... The bezel will come loose. No screws on the LCD side, only for the hinge, but you need to unscrew all screws on the bottom case, to disassemble the hinge. The wire for the LCD is tucked inside the hinge cover. There is a german video on YouTube for this Zenbook.

Woah...

I did the repair yesterday. Ended up prying on the edges using a guitar pick, managed to get it off in one piece. Sadly forgot to take pictures for posterity (whoever stumbles onto this thread looking for help like me). For mine, the LCD screen, the digitizer/touch panel, and the bezel for the screen are in one piece. Glued, I suppose. The screen+touch assembly wasn't glued to the metal cover behind it (the one with the ASUS logo on it). I think there was some padding in between the screen+touch assembly and the cover as well...

In any case, the hinge is accessible after popping the screen assembly off the outer shell. You do have to prop it (screen assembly) up while replacing the hinge because it doesn't detach completely. The wires for display and touch are on either side, one for each hinge. They're kind of tucked into the space in the hinge, no glue nothing fancy.

Good luck with your repair lol.

Hi,

Can you clarify what you mean by "outer shell", do you mean all I need to do to access the hinge screws is to prise off the rear metal cover from the screen?
Are there any screws under those 2 rubber bumpers below the display?

Thanks.

Yes, there are.
I'd recommend separating the two halves of computer first.
You will need to disassemble the non-screen side first to free up the display/antenna/cam wiring.

Look at some videos of similar models if you cannot find one for this model. I'll see if I can find the one I used...

EDIT: somebody above referenced a german video, that video says it is for "UX360", but that screen is NOT identical to ours (UX360CA), so you might use it as a little bit of guidance, but I would not rely on it as my main reference... (https://youtu.be/B6F1BAJ86yg?t=2m32s)

Hi I am very new to all of this, and as like the other users, I too could not find any YT videos on the Asus Zenbook Flip UX360CA on hinge removal. I have after looking at the German Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6F1...utu.be&t=2m32s
and looked at https://laptopmedia.com/news/inside-...grade-options/

I am not sure how to detach the hinge because you say there are some wires tucked in. Can you please eloborate how to remove the hinge?

I would love to see a step by step video (as no one has made one). Can you do a mock one and remove and replace your good hinge?

I would be indebted to you, as the moment I am typing from a left loose hinge ASUS and not happy

I am afraid to open my laptop up without visuals to guide me step by step. You seemed the best person as you seemed to have got it right!

Would sincerely appreciate your help.

Not too bad, I replaced my cracked Touchscreen Digitizer, was definitely a hassle joining the new Glass Digitizer to my Original Bezel and LCD to the (couldn't find any Glass+Bezel options) but working like a champ again (well, a somewhat undernourished weak champ... lol.

The really difficult part was straightening the corners I had dropped it on (was closed when it fell, bent the corners on the non-hinge edge)...

I'm not finding the site I used to repair mine, but here's how to get it open...

EDIT- fixing my bad recall of what I replaced.
