External SSD drive not working correctly with GL752VW Laptop (USB 3.0 issue?)

When I connect my external SSD through USB 3.0 port or even USB C the laptop will find the drive but when I move large files it will almost drop instantly to 0mb/s transfer for like 10 seconds, then continue for a few seconds and repeat this process.

Sometimes it even gives me an I/O device error and I need to reconnect the drive.

Now, from what I've researched so far this seems to be a known issue with the usb 3.0 ports not delivering enough power. Are there any other people experiencing this issue? I'd RMA it but I'm not sure they will even fix this?

Things I tried so far:

  • Uninstall USB Charger Plus
  • Buy an USB C cable
  • Disable Mass storage support in BIOS
  • Try USB 2.0 but same issue

i’d be really surprised if it’s a power issue, usb 3 can delivery a lot.

How does the drive perform on another system?*

The drive works perfect on other desktops and laptops. Reaches speeds of 200mb/s while on my laptop it maxes at 100mb/s before it crashes.

The USB 3.0 standard might deliver enough power, but this specific series of laptops has an issue with power delivery based on what I've read so far.
