need OC help on C6H, Tri-Z 3200CL14, Ryzen 1700

What's up!
i'm looking for some settings advice to achieve a 3.7-3.8 OC on my C6H build. at one point i had ram at rated speeds and cpu at 3.5 on bios 1701.
now i'm running everything at stock on bios 3008. with new AIO my temps are 29c idle and 50c max during AIDA64 stress test.
a lot of bios settings are as good as alien speak to me. i'm sure someone has a similar build with successful settings.
i feel like 3008 is acting up. maybe i need to go back to 1701, but even then i probably had something messed up.

any help would be nice!

UPDATE: went back to 1701 from 3008. 1701 and my particular setup seem to understand each other. 3008 was causing some lag in general.
so now that i got a comfortable base back... maybe someone will give me some good advice. and i'm not* trying to take the easy way out. i've read and read and experimented to no avail. i think i got most of it clear, but i think i may be missing something to you guys/gals find laughable and/or obvious. erp ready? csm? llc? blah blah blah.

Hi there 🙂 .

Have you tried 3502? I have been using that on my R7 1800X + F4-3200C14D-16GTZ. There is also 6001 on support site.

by what i've read... 3502 and 6001 look buggy

i appreciate your input... but i'm a noob to this. should i start with low/high voltage? i don't even know where to start. all i know is that when i apply any OC my temps skyrocket. and since i've added my AIO, temps have been low as hell as long as i leave everything at default.

A bit about my experience with C6H 🙂 . I have had board since launch 🙂 . I have used 3x R7 1700, 2x R7 1800X and ~4 differing RAM kits with same board 🙂 .

6001 is as sound if not better than 3502 🙂 . I gained 4.0GHz 3333MHz C14 1T yesterday on HCI, Realbench, Y-Cruncher and P95 🙂 . Here is 8hrs P95 v29.4B5 (Custom 8K 4096K 13000MB).

72014

IMO flash UEFI 6001.

Setup a base profile to OC on.

My base profile never has an OC, but all the common settings I would use on differing OC profile, save this in Tool page > ASUS Overclocking Profile.

Below are what I changed on UEFI 3502/6001 as my base profile for OC.

On Extreme Tweaker page I set:-

Ai Overclock Tuner [Manual]
BCLK Frequency [100.0000]
Performance Bias [None]
Core Performance Boost [Disabled]
SMT Mode [Enabled]
1.8V PLL Voltage [1.80000]
1.05V SB Voltage [1.05000]

On DRAM Timings Control page:-

Cmd2T [1T]
Gear Down Mode [Disabled]
Power Down Enable [Disabled]

On External Digi+ Power Control page:-

VRM Spread Spectrum [Disabled]

On Tweakers Paradise page:-

Sense MI Skew [Disabled]

I would also advise using Fan smoothing for fan headers. I use a value of 3.8S, this will help with fans not pulsing from sporadic CPU temperature bounces that occur on Ryzen.

72015

Now to OC 🙂 .

You should be able to get your RAM upto 3200MHz IMO with ease. Load The Stilt 3200MHz Safe Preset. The preset is tighter timings than XMP/DOCP and has the crucial timings that give best gains on Ryzen set tight.

72016

Now on Extreme Tweaker page set:-

Memory Frequency [DDR4-3200MHz]
CPU SOC Voltage [Manual mode]
- VDDSOC Voltage Override [1.05000]
DRAM Voltage [1.35000]

On External Digi+ Power Control page:-

DRAM VBoot Voltage [1.35000]

If you don't own HCI Memtest I would buy a copy. As then you can use a launcher to have required instances/MB. I would use 16 instances each using ~1625MB (26GB in total).

If you pass ~400% (which is ~2hrs) then I'd move to CPU OC. If you run into issues with HCI Memtest stage then increase SOC and/or VDIMM. You shouldn't need more than 1.1V SOC and 1.375V VDIMM IMO for RAM MHz/setup used. You may need to play with ProcODT also. Also post a screen shot of RTC, as can check for you if you need to play with BankGroupSwap settings, for me UEFI 3502/6001 sets it correctly on [Auto] for RAM used.

There are 2 ways you can OC CPU, use the easier method first.

On Extreme Tweaker page you'll find:-

Custom CPU Core Ratio [Auto]
> CPU Core Ratio [Auto]

Change CPU Core Ratio to 38.

3.8GHz has been possible on all R7 1700 I have owned, I used a air cooler, ThermalRight Archon IB-E X2. They need ~1.35V VCORE, +/- 0.025V depending on CPU sample.

Easiest way to get the voltage change is by setting on Extreme Tweaker page:-

CPU Core Voltage [Manual]

and then value as needed.

Once you have this tested I can help you setup offset mode voltage or PState 0 OC with VID change.

ive been able to run my ryzen 1700 at a stable 4.0Ghz but on a x370-f rog board and ddr4 2400mhz corsair ram clocked at 2597Mhz. so cant see why you shouldn't get near to it. will upload some screenshots when I get 5mins.

thanks gupsterg. i may have to wait until; tomorrow to test, but this is the kind of info. i was looking for! i appreciate you taking the time to offer some real advice. you the man!

ok. so i bought the $5 version of the mem test. i ran it with your settings + the stilt's settings. with the stilt's settings it crashed.
then i set everything at default in the bios and reached 200% with 0 errors. the included log shows both test results.

update 3/3 did what i did the first time i got my ram running right... everything default. only setting manually to 3200,dramV 1.35 and timings 14-14-14-14-34 i'm guessing that extra 14 is just a general cas timing? haven't reapplied your pre OC settings, but at least ram is where i want it! yay

not sure what to try next
