    Microsoft KB4090007: Intel microcode updates

Does anyone have any idea what this update from Microsoft is all about ? Should we install this or wait for a BIOS update from ASUS for the new microcode from Intel ?

I would absolutely wait for Asus to issue a proper BIOS update. No way I would try to force it.

For starters this is only for Skylake so everyone else need not apply.
Here's an article that gives a little explainer:
    https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018...crocode-fixes/

Given this is Intel's latest revised microcode and Microsoft is just helping distribute and apply it I'd think it is likely safe but I'd probably wait a few days to see if anyone has problems. Microsoft doesn't have enough confidence to distribute this automatically through Windows Update so I would approach with caution just in case.

That is exactly what I am planning to do. I will wait several days to see what is reported back by users. Let's see how this works for people.

It's an hotfix for Windows, not for the bios

So are you suggesting installing this Microsoft hotfix in addition to the coming BIOS from ASUS or just waiting for the BIOS ?

No need to do both for the vulnerability as it's the same microcode for Spectre variant 2. The only reason to do the BIOS update would be for any other tweaks ASUS might include. If you can wait for ASUS then that would be the most thoroughly tested version as whatever ASUS publishes would be tested on your board specifically.

You can install this Microsoft update without any problem
    It's like Windows updates
This one updates the file mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll
I guess in the next Cumulative Update, it will be integrated
    Sorry for my english

I installed the update on 3/1/2018 and I have not had any problems.
    I have Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.1GHz.
So apparently it also works with some older processors ?

If your processor is not targeted by the update you can install it but it won't do anything.
