I guess your temps are where they should be, here is a fellow with the same cooler as you and at 4.7GHz with 1.20v he's hitting 90c, his cpu is not delidded.

First you'll need a monitoring program and a stress testing program, would you have any installed ?

If not I'll recommend HWinfo for hardware monitoring and ROG Realbench for stress testing.

HWinfo - Click the green "Download Installer" in the middle.

    ROG Realbench

If you have a hardware monitoring program and stress testing program already installed, list what you have.
    Hey guys,

Do you recommend overclocking my setup just for gaming? And, any hardware upgrade suggestions?

    Here's the setup:

    CPU: i7 8700k
GPU: Asus ROG Strix 1080ti OC
    Mobo: Asus ROG Strix Z370-E
Cooler: Corsair H115i Liquid CPU Cooler

There's something not right there. I'm on Air cooled on a Deepcool Gammax GT, a thin air cooler on an 8700K. Latest version of Prime 3 hours steady on 4.8, 1.2 adaptive volts. I max out at mid 70's on prime and spike to 80, but gaming temps are never hit 70.

Same temps with Realbench stress test. My only concern really is i can't get vcore to drop from 1.296 despite me being on 1.2 adaptive in bios. LLC 5, set the a.c. and dc load lines to 0.01

Just an update on my OC. I'm a 100% stable now at 4.9GHz Prime95 v29.4 build 7 using Custom Blend with avg Mem used at 84.1% and 24 hours stable. You're not stable unless you're Prime95 stable.

Asus ROG Maximus X Hero WI-FI Bios 1101 Settings:
    Extreme Tweaker:
    Sync All Core - 49
CPU Core/Cache voltage - Adaptive Mode
CPU Core Voltage Override - 1.270
    Offset Mode Sign - Negative
    Offset Voltage - 0.020
    Manual memory setting 3200 17,18,18,36,2N 1.35v

    Thanks again for the help!

    That looks good !

Prime95 does hit the cpu pretty hard and your temps are great in the 70's but.....

I see the maximum Vcore is going to 1.376v. If you're setting the CPU Core Voltage Override to 1.280v, the maximum Vcore should be close to 1.280v.

I agree but here is a picture of my bios settings. Also before my stress testing began I cleared CMOS and manually entered all settings. It must be a bug in bios 1101 because ROG CPU-Z v1.84 and HWiNFO64 both have the same readings for my vCore.

    OK,

Go to Internal CPU Power Management and set:

IA AC Load Line - .01
IA DC Load Line - .01

    DIGI+
    LLC to level 6

This should put the voltage close to 1.270v which I see you have it set to. Being you'll be at a lower voltage you may not be stable at 1.280v, cross your fingers.

Will I gain anything from changing these settings or am I just changing these settings so that it will read v1.37-v1.39 in CPU Core Voltage Override instead of v1.270? Because it looks like my chip needs up to v1.392 to be rock solid at 4.9GHz.

    Good call Mr. Nate,

I'm almost 17 hrs in at 5GHz at v1.36 in Prime95 using these settings!

If you're setting 1.360v in the bios this looks good.

One other thing I see is the cpu vccio voltage is at 1.360v which is high, the cpu system agent voltage (VCCSA) looks good at 1.160v.

Enter in 1.150v for both the CPU System Agent Voltage and CPU VCCIO Voltage, if it's stable it should drop temps a couple degrees.
