Did you try popping the drive out of one system and putting it in the other to see if the windows boot time is quicker? I know first (and maybe second) time around it is going to install drivers for the new/old board but after that is should boot up as fast as the original Z270. I pretty sure it's a windows thing since the hardware boot works fine. Once the POST is finished it hands it off to windows OS and the circlely thingy is all windows loading everything it can. Are both sets of windows on the 2 systems identical? Probably not. I'm pretty sure it is going to be a windows lag and not your hardware. Have you tested startup times in safe mode? See if loading minimal drivers makes a difference.

I have personally tried to install Windows on both m2 slots. The one below the heatsink is a better choice tempature wise though both resulted in same boot time degradation. Minimal loading and safe mode results in the same time. I suspect the NVME drivers I used from Intel, thinking about reinstalling windows once the Spring CU is final with the stock NVME driver.

Wow sorry guys I've been away from this forum for a while.. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.

To answer some of the questions, I have tried with Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed and without, there was no notable difference in boot times. That is the only thing close to a driver that Intel provides for the 600p. I'm fairly sure there is no specific driver from Intel like there is for some of the Samsung M.2s. I haven't tried disabling everything on startup yet but my boot times seem a little more consistent after disabling Corsair Link (I no longer have an AIO so I don't need it) although not as fast as one would expect from this kind of setup. I'll run latencymon and then I'll try disabling everything that runs on startup and report back here with the results.

I agree that it's very possibly a Windows issue since the delay only occurs while windows loads, but it just baffles me that the Z270 gigabyte system has the same version of windows with a similar amount of startup applications and it boots faster than anything I've ever seen while my Z370 ASUS system is like a snail in comparison.

I ran a test to check how long the boot times were on my Hero X (non Wi-Fi). From switching the PC on to Windows desktop 23.84 seconds. From Windows spinning circle to desktop 5.3 seconds. That's with a Samsung 960 Pro NvMe in slot M2-2.
My Hero 9 times are practically the same and that's with a 950 Pro NvMe also in slot M2-2.

I know this is not going to help solve your boot problem. Once Post has completed it's in the lap of the gods (Windows).

the 23 seconds is similar to me but then its another 10 seconds or so with the same drive in the same slot

Question about Intel Turbo Boost .............isnt it suppose to go up to 4.7 ? at default settings with only XMP enabled it only boosts up to 4.3 running Cinebench ? CPU-Z shows 100% at 4.3 and the multiplier in bracket shows ( 8 - 47 ) but only gets to 4300

Is Asus Multicore Enhancement set to auto? With my board if that was disabled under stress testing core frequency would be reduced. Once enabled(Auto) core frequency didn't drop.

What Bios version are you using?

BIOS is 1103 I think.......it was the most recent until a week ago when the 1301 ( I thinks thats the number )came out

actually think I will do a BIOS upgrade tonight and see how things go

At Default settings multicore will be set to Auto. When you set XMP this screen changes to ask you if you want to set the turbo (can't remember the exact wording) If you hit NO the CPU defaults to Intel's settings.
